Again, Armed Herdsmen Kill Farmer, Abduct Villagers in Benue

Armed herdsmen struck again in Benue State on Saturday, killing a farmer and injuring several others during an attack on Tse Akor Gbatse village in Nyiev Council Ward of Guma Local Government Area. The attackers also left many residents missing and unaccounted for, throwing the community into fear and mourning.

The violence erupted in the afternoon, just a few kilometers from Daudu town, despite repeated warnings from locals about a looming invasion.

Villagers had earlier raised alarm after receiving intelligence that armed herders had gathered at Rukubi in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, allegedly plotting fresh raids on border settlements in Guma.

A community source, who requested anonymity, explained that the herders claimed three of their children went missing in one of the nearby communities weeks ago.

He revealed that the attackers used this as justification for Saturday’s violence.

“They launched the attack without warning,” the source recounted.

“They killed Tachia Akor, his wife, and one Mrs. Tsetim. Several others suffered serious injuries, and many farmers remain missing.

Those injured are receiving treatment at Adi Hospital in Daudu town.”

The source added that heavily armed herders continued roaming deserted villages in Guma, forcing residents to abandon their homes.

He urged security agencies to step up patrols and flush out the marauders before more lives are lost.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer for Benue State, DSP Udeme Edet, confirmed the attack.

He assured that security operatives had already moved into the affected area.

“Yes, we received the information, and our men are on the ground. They began investigations immediately after deployment,” Edet stated.

“We want to assure residents that normalcy has returned, and our officers remain vigilant.”

Despite police reassurances, fear still grips many residents who feel vulnerable to repeated attacks.

Community leaders argue that the government must act faster and deploy stronger security measures to prevent further bloodshed.

Benue State has witnessed relentless waves of herdsmen attacks in recent years, leaving thousands dead and displacing many families.

The latest invasion once again highlights the fragile security situation in Guma and the urgent need for lasting solutions.
