Gunmen have launched a deadly attack on Ikn’gwakap community in Mushere Chiefdom, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident, which happened late Sunday, September 14, left six people dead.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers stormed the community at midnight and opened fire. Several houses were set ablaze during the raid, leaving many families displaced.
The National Publicity Secretary of the Mushere Youth Movement, Kutyil Gashion Nahum, confirmed the killings in a statement on Monday.
He described the attack as brutal and deeply traumatic.
“On Sunday night, six innocent persons, including women and children, were murdered in their sleep at Ikn’gwakap.
Others are still missing, leaving families in fear and uncertainty,” the statement read.
Nahum condemned the continued attacks on Mushere communities, noting that no perpetrator has ever been arrested or prosecuted.
He called for an urgent overhaul of security operations in the area.
He said, “It is unacceptable that these killings continue without justice.
We call on the government at all levels to rise to its constitutional duty of protecting lives and property.”
The community urged residents to remain vigilant and united while pressing peacefully for justice and lasting peace.
Nahum added that the blood of innocent people must not continue to be shed in vain.
Meanwhile, in another incident on Sunday night, kidnappers invaded Dong community in Jos North LGA.
They abducted two young children from a family home around 10 p.m.
A resident, Mark Josiah, confirmed the abduction. “Since the incident happened, we have not seen the children,” he said.
As of Monday morning, the Plateau State Police Command had not issued an official statement.
However, a police source said security personnel had been deployed to the affected communities to assess the situation.
The attacks add to growing concerns over insecurity across Plateau State, where communities remain targets of banditry, kidnappings, and violent raids.
