NYSC to mobilise over 650,000 graduates for national service

Nigeria’s largest airline, Air Peace, has announced plans to hire 1,000 fresh graduates through its 2025/2026 Graduate Trainee Programme.

The new jobs come shortly after the Federal Government suspended the 4% Free on Board (FOB) levy on imported goods.

The levy had triggered widespread criticism from manufacturers, importers, and customs agents, who warned it could worsen inflation and harm businesses.

Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, admitted that the levy, introduced by Customs, posed risks to trade, economic stability, and Nigeria’s investment climate.

He confirmed that its suspension followed concerns from critical stakeholders.

Air Peace Chairman, Allen Onyema, described the move as a lifeline for the aviation industry.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, he praised President Bola Tinubu and Minister Edun for their responsive leadership.

“This suspension is a lifeline for airlines. It removes a heavy burden that could have crippled the sector and triggered massive job losses.

Air Peace is reciprocating this kind gesture by creating 1,000 graduate jobs for young Nigerians,” Onyema said.

He stressed that the initiative shows how government and private sector collaboration can deliver real economic impact.

“If more supportive measures come from government, I can assure you thousands more jobs will be created in aviation,” he added.

The Graduate Trainee Programme is designed to equip young Nigerians with practical skills, mentorship, and industry exposure.

Onyema explained that it will also build a pipeline of competent, future-ready professionals to support the growth of the aviation sector.

To qualify, candidates must:

Be 30 years old or younger at the time of application.

Hold at least a Second Class Lower (2:2) degree in any discipline from a recognized university.

Possess a valid NYSC discharge certificate, exemption, or exclusion letter.

Demonstrate adaptability, passion, and a strong desire to learn.

Applications are open until September 30, 2025.

Interested candidates can apply via Air Peace Graduate Trainee Portal or by scanning the QR code on the official programme flier.

This development is expected to provide fresh opportunities for Nigerian youths and strengthen the aviation sector’s contribution to the economy.
