UNN SUG president suspended over cultism, corruption, and murder links

(DDM) – Tension has erupted at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), following the indefinite suspension of the Student Union Government (SUG) President, Comrade Ozoagu Chinedu Godswill, alongside several executives of the union, over allegations of cultism, threats to life, and large-scale financial mismanagement.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the dramatic move was announced by the SUG House of Representatives in a strongly worded resolution released this week.
The suspension also affects the Deputy Speaker, Ihentugo Rejoice, and other officials including Emmanuel Asadu, Agbo Sobechukwu Malachy, Chinweike Dorothy, Victory Chidiebere, Chukwuma JohnPaul, and Edmund Solomon.
According to the House, the suspension followed a petition by Mr. Okeke Christian, who accused Comr. Ozoagu of harboring cultists and non-students, known locally as “big boys,” within the university environment for financial gain.
These individuals, allegedly operating under his influence, were linked to the killing of a student on campus.
The House alleged that the suspended president used armed cult groups to intimidate principal officers of the union, including the Speaker, Clerk, and Budget Committee Chairman.
Audio recordings of phone calls, it claimed, revealed direct threats against the Speaker for resisting alleged financial impropriety.
Equally damning are claims of widespread corruption. The statement revealed that ₦124 million released by the former Acting Vice-Chancellor for SUG projects was allegedly withdrawn and shared among external actors and union officials without a single project executed.
A further ₦100 million reportedly withdrawn from the SUG account in the past year remains unaccounted for.
Lawmakers also accused the suspended president of persistently pressuring the Speaker to authorize additional withdrawals of ₦40 million from the SUG budget and ₦57 million earmarked for union projects, actions the House insisted violated the SUG constitution.
The SUG House urged the new UNN Vice-Chancellor to immediately audit all union accounts and suspend further withdrawals until proper accountability is enforced.
It directed that the Vice President assume office in an acting capacity. However, if she declines due to her reported closeness to the suspended president, the Secretary-General will take over under the “principle of necessity.”
The House further ordered Comr. Ozoagu to hand over all official materials and union documents without delay. It warned that any individuals parading themselves as legitimate SUG leaders outside its resolution would be regarded as impostors.
The statement stressed that the suspension was necessary to defend the “soul of the union” against what it described as impunity, corruption, and violence. “The days of sharing students’ money among political cabals and external mercenaries are over,” the communiqué declared.
With the crisis deepening, analysts say the scandal marks one of the most serious leadership breakdowns in UNN’s student union history.
Students now await the findings of the investigative panel to determine whether the allegations will end in prosecution or reinstatement.
