NURTW Official Arrested for Beating Dispatch Rider to Death

A Lagos Island official of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Shamsideen Adio, has been arrested for allegedly beating a dispatch rider to death following a dispute over a scratched vehicle. The incident occurred Wednesday on Tapa Street, Lagos Island.
According to witnesses and police reports, Adio and his associates assaulted the rider until he collapsed. The victim later died from injuries sustained during the attack.
The suspect was immediately taken into custody by the Lagos State Police Command and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation. Meanwhile, the police confirmed the arrest but are yet to release full statements regarding motives beyond the alleged vehicle scratch dispute.
The incident has drawn widespread public outrage, highlighting issues of union‐related violence and concerns about the safety and welfare of dispatch riders in Lagos.
