Tinubu Must Publish N330bn Cash Transfer Beneficiaries – Yoruba Group

The Yoruba socio-cultural group Ìgbìnmó Májékóbájé Ilé-Yorùbá has challenged President Bola Tinubu to release the names of beneficiaries of the N330 billion cash transfers reportedly disbursed to poor Nigerians.

In a statement released on Friday, Convener Olusola Badero and Home Director Princess Balogun accused the government of spreading propaganda and misleading citizens.

The group alleged that most recipients were members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), not ordinary Nigerians as claimed.

According to the statement, hardship has worsened since Tinubu removed fuel subsidy on his first day in office.

The union noted that many families can no longer afford basic necessities.

They questioned how N25,000 monthly could sustain a household when a bag of rice costs more than N70,000.

“The era of propaganda is gone. We are in a digital world where nothing is hidden,” the group said.

It stressed that citizens in the Southwest now face extreme poverty, despite having their “own son” as president.

The statement added that parents are abandoning responsibilities due to economic pressure, forcing thousands of children to drop out of school.

Rising poverty, it warned, is fueling crime and social vices across the country.

The group demanded that the government publish a transparent list of beneficiaries, including their states, local governments, and wards.

Anything less, it said, would confirm public suspicions of corruption.

It also cautioned the Tinubu administration against using unverifiable cash transfer claims as an excuse to seek more loans from global lenders.

“The government should not claim to have disbursed N330 billion to 15 million Nigerians and then use that to borrow more from the World Bank or IMF. Nigerians will reject this outright,” the group stated.

Furthermore, the Yoruba body called on the World Bank and IMF to stop granting loans that increase Nigeria’s debt burden.

It argued that borrowing has worsened living conditions, with more citizens pushed into poverty as taxes rise to repay debts.

The union insisted that Tinubu must prioritise transparency and accountability rather than rely on propaganda.

It warned that without honest governance, insecurity and instability will deepen, leaving millions of Nigerians trapped in poverty.
