BREAKING: Sanwo-Olu opens health jobs portal, vows free and fair recruitment

(DDM) – Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the recruitment of clinical staff across the state’s general hospitals.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the approval targets filling critical vacancies in 29 secondary healthcare facilities under the Lagos State Health Service Commission.

According to the directive, the move aligns with the THEMES Agenda of the Sanwo-Olu administration, which prioritizes healthcare and human capital development.

Officials said the initiative is designed to cushion the effects of brain drain that has seen many medical professionals leave Nigeria for better opportunities abroad.

The governor stressed that residents of Lagos must have access to qualitative, affordable, and timely healthcare regardless of ongoing challenges in the sector.

Vacancies exist for specialists and fresh graduates, including consultants, senior registrars, medical officers, pharmacists, physiotherapists, nurses, medical laboratory scientists, optometrists, and radiographers.

Other positions include dental officers, dental therapists, pharmacy technicians, laboratory technicians, and house officers.

Internship placements are also available for pharmacy, laboratory, physiotherapy, optometry, radiography, and nursing graduates, with opportunities to train within the state’s facilities.

Applications are strictly online, with the commission warning against physical submissions or payments to middlemen.

Interested candidates are directed to apply via the Lagos State Health Service Commission portal: https://lshsc.com.ng/home/recruitment.

The portal opened on Monday, September 22, 2025, and will close on Friday, October 3, 2025.

Authorities warned that no late applications will be entertained.

Successful candidates will be shortlisted for a Computer-Based Test (CBT) and an interview as part of the recruitment process.

The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Health Service Commission, who signed the announcement, assured that the recruitment is transparent and free.

“Applicants should beware of fraudsters. We do not demand payment at any stage of this process,” the statement read.

The Lagos State government has in recent years faced criticism over staff shortages in hospitals as many doctors and nurses resigned in search of better working conditions abroad.

Healthcare unions have repeatedly warned that overstretched staff and underfunded facilities were undermining patient care.

Analysts believe the current recruitment is part of Sanwo-Olu’s wider push to retain talent and strengthen secondary healthcare delivery.

Observers also link the move to Lagos’ fast-growing population, with increasing demand for services in densely populated areas like Alimosho, Ikorodu, and Eti-Osa.

By targeting both experienced consultants and young interns, the state hopes to sustain its workforce pipeline while retaining skills within Nigeria.

Civil society groups have commended the initiative but stressed that recruitment must be matched with improved welfare and working conditions to prevent another wave of migration.

The recruitment drive is expected to be closely monitored by healthcare professionals and residents eager to see a real impact on service delivery across Lagos hospitals.
