Bandits gun down worshippers in Zamfara mosque

Armed bandits attacked a mosque in Yantodo village, Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, during early morning prayers on Friday, killing at least five worshippers and injuring several others.

The criminal elements, armed with automatic weapons, invaded the mosque and opened fire indiscriminately on the congregation.

Five bodies have been recovered and confirmed dead, with several others injured.

An unspecified number of worshippers were abducted by the bandits, who fled into a nearby forest.

Community members and sympathizers later conducted funeral prayers for the victims, who were described as devout Muslims known for their regular attendance at the mosque.

This attack comes barely a week after a similar incident in Gidan Turbe village, also in Tsafe LGA, where about 40 worshippers were reportedly abducted during dawn prayers.

Zamfara State has been plagued by security challenges, with bandits and kidnappers operating in the region, affecting the lives of residents and food security in the country.
