# Governor Chukwuma Soludo has been recognized on the international stage with three prestigious awards.

The awards given during the 2025 Global Power Forum was held alongside the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The accolades include the African Public Service Excellence Award and the African Governor of the Year Award, as well as a certificate of special recognition from the House of Representatives of South Carolina.

The South Carolina House of Representatives presented Governor Soludo with a certificate commending his distinguished career, which includes his roles as a professor of economics, economic adviser to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

# The newly elected Executive Committee of the Abagana Welfare Union (AWU), led by the President General, Chief Sir Linus Okafor Okunwa, paid a courtesy visit to the Mayor of Njikoka LGA, Barr. Chinedu Dominic Ononiba, at the Local Government Headquarters in Abagana.

The visit served as a formal introduction of the new leadership of the Union to the Mayor and an opportunity to discuss areas of mutual interest, especially on how to strengthen grassroots development, peace, and cooperation within Abagana and Njikoka at large.

Okunwa expressed appreciation for the Mayor’s continuous support for town unions and promised that his administration will work hand-in-hand with the local government for progress.

In his response, Barr. Chinedu Dominic Ononiba warmly welcomed the new executive, congratulating them on their emergence. He emphasized the importance of synergy between the local government and town unions to drive sustainable development. He assured the team of his full support and encouraged them to remain focused, people-oriented, and united in purpose.

# Anambra State Government has welcomed the 2025 Batch B Stream two corps members with a strong pledge to equip them for success beyond their service year.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony held at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp, Mbaukwu-Umuawulu, Governor Chukwuma Soludo, represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr Patrick Aghamba, urged the 2,157 new corps members to embrace discipline, good values and practical skills that will serve them long after the programme ends.

He assured them of the state government’s unwavering commitment to youth empowerment, pointing to the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) initiative as a pathway to financial independence.

# Some members of Enugwu-Agidi community in Njikoka LGA have staged a peaceful protest in the area against their President General of Enugwu-Agidi Brotherly Union, Nigeria, Mr Ebuka Onuorah.

The protesters who carried placards with various inscriptions accused the President General of kidnapping, illegal land sales, disregarding the constitution of the community, among others

At the same time, there was a counter protests by another group demanding the removal of the Traditional Ruler, Igwe Michael Okekeuche.

When contacted, the Traditional Ruler, Igwe Okekeuche, urged the people to maintain calm and restraint, while seeking government intervention to protect the people.

# The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has congratulated Governor Chukwuma Soludo on his recent triple honours at the 2025 Global Power Forum in New York.

Governor Soludo was honoured with the African Public Service Excellence Award, the African Governor of the Year Award, and a Certificate of Special Recognition from the South Carolina House of Representatives – an international acknowledgement of his leadership and the reforms shaping Anambra.

Describing the recognition as “a moment of collective pride for Ndi Anambra,” Rt. Hon. Udeze said the awards go beyond individual achievement.

Udeze praised Soludo for placing Anambra at the heart of Africa’s development conversation and reaffirmed the commitment of the 8th Assembly to continue working in partnership with the Executive in pursuit of a livable and prosperous homeland.

# The youths of Isseke community in Ihiala LGA has called on Anambra state government’s urgent intervention as they declared with one voice that “enough is enough” over the years of insecurity, vandalization and fear.

The Isseke youths held a candlelight procession, starting from Ihiala and walking back into their land, as they moved through places that once gave life to the community; but now lie in ruins.

They passed through broken roads, vandalized facilities, their bushy market, shops, deserted churches and schools that have been closed for years, homes that were abandoned, and the deserted Igwe’s palace which now stands as a shadow of what it used to be.

Speaking, former Youth President of Isseke and Special Assist to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on House of Assembly Matters, Hon. Thaddeus Enukoha, said their people must return.

# Anambra NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Pauline Ojushua, has praised the corps members for their enthusiasm and resilience in adapting quickly to camp life.

Ojushua while speaking urged them to use the orientation period to learn Nigeria’s diverse cultures, build emotional intelligence and sharpen their leadership abilities through drills, lectures, advocacy training and social activities.

The Chief Judge of Anambra State, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu, administered the oath on the 1,128 male and 1,029 female participants.

One of the new corps members, Gibson Ayebatari, expressed delight at his posting, noting his long-standing friendship with Anambra people and hinting of a desire to make the state his permanent home.
