# Ndi Enugwu-Agidi community in Njikoka LGA have staged a peaceful protest against the President General (PG) of Enugwu-Agidi Brotherly Union, Nigeria, Mr Ebuka Onuorah, accusing him of kidnapping, illegal land sales, harassment and intimidation of community members, as well as total disregarding for the constitution of the community.

The protesters who converged at Eke market square, Enugwu-Agidi, displayed placards with various inscriptions such as; “Ebuka Onuorah must go, Ebuka Onuorah uses police to intimidate us, Governor Chukwuma Soludo save us from Ebuka Onuorah”.

However, another small group supporting the PG and standing opposite displayed placards with inscriptions such as; “Ebuka Onuorah is our saviour, The government of the day must continue, Igwe Okekeuche must Go.”

One of the anti-PG protesters, Mr. Vin Onyekwelu, said the peaceful exercise was against harassment and polarization of community members, illegal sale of lands by the PG, whom he also accused of using Agunechemba and Operation Udo Ga-achi security operatives to harass community members, calling for the intervention of Governor Chukwuma Soludo and the federal government.

# The Steering Committee of the 2025 Ofala Festival of Onitsha Ado N’Idu Kingdom has released the programme of events for this year’s celebration scheduled to hold between 7th October and 2nd November 2025 at the Conference Hall, Ime Obi Onitsha.

Speaking at a media briefing, the Chairman of Strategic Marketing and Communications Sub-Committee, Nnaemeka Maduegbune, outlined activities lined up for the annual cultural fiesta which will climax with the two-day Iru and Azu Ofala, with highlights including the Obi of Onitsha’s royal parade, traditional dances and colourful displays by different age grades.

He explained that the Ofala Festival, regarded as an age-long cultural heritage, is performed annually to mark the Obi’s successful negotiation of the kingdom’s fortunes during seclusion, and to commemorate the discovery of yam as a staple food.

# The Traditional Ruler of Enugwu-Agidi, Igwe Michael Okekeuche, says the protest from the community against the President General is rooted in pain and injustice, but called on his people to show restraint even in the face of provocation, and the state government, a well as security agencies to investigate the unrest and ensure that justice is served, and that people’s lives are protected.

The Monarch while speaking in a press conference addressed at his Palace through his Chief Press Secretary, Chief Ifeanyi Ndulue, said “We are witnessing what no community should ever endure: allegations of rampant land grabbing, abuse of power by those entrusted with leadership, disruption of sacred burial and funeral rites in Etiti Village, rites that bind us to our ancestors and the imposition of parallel leadership structures allegedly fueled by the Enugwu-Agidi Brotherly Union (EBU) Nigeria, threatening the unity of our people.

“These actions have sown confusion, provoked unrest, and pushed our peaceful community to the brink. We hereby call upon the Anambra State Government and all relevant security agencies to rise to their constitutional duty: to protect the lives and property of Enugwu-Agidi people, investigate the root causes of this unrest, and ensure that justice is served without fear or favour, and to support the Igwe-in-Council in restoring peace and unity.

“We are not asking for favours. We are demanding intervention, protection, and fairness, for the sake of our land, our future, and our unborn generations. In line with the powers vested in him by Article 40, Sections 1 and 6 of the Enugwu-Agidi Brotherly Union Constitution, and in accordance with the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Law 2007, Section 15, Subsection (I), His Royal Highness calls on all ouru people to show restraint, even in the face of provocation. Let us not allow chaos to consume what generations before us labored to build.”

# A sober moment for family and acquaintances it was during the burial ceremony for late Pa Chukwuemeka Andrew Iloegbunam, a veteran Journalist who passed-on at the age of seventy-three, with dignitaries gathering to pay their last respect at Umugama village, Ukwulu, Dunukofia Council Area.

In a sermon during the church service, Rev. John Obi of Christ Holy Church, emphasized that death is price to be paid by all mortals, and Christians must make good use of their time on earth in line with scriptural teachings, eulogizing the life of the deceased.

Speaking after interment, the eldest son of the deceased, Mr Benjamin Iloegbunam, noted that their father was an intellectual and a peaceful man whose creative work was felt as a Journalist during his active days with Newspapers such as Daily Star, Tell Magazine, Concord and Trumpet, and advised all to live a life of legacy.

The daughter of the deceased, Mrs. Ogochukwu Ezenwafor, noted that their father was a peaceful person who left enduring legacies wherever he found himself.

# The Local Government Chairman of Njikoka, Barr. Chinedu Ononiba has
reassured Enugwu-Agidi community of Anambra government’s readiness to revive the market project.

Ononiba while speaking at the September edition of the Enugwu-Agidi Central Executive Committee Meeting, held at the Secretariat, stated that practical steps are already in motion to revalidate and activate the market

The local government boss noted that it will significantly boost local commerce, create employment, and enhance the economic development of not just Enugwu-Agidi but the entire Njikoka LGA.

However, the Mayor emphasized his administration’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote growth, unity, and progress within communities under his jurisdiction.

# Christiana Anthony Agha Foundation, CAAF, has extended its medical outreach program to all residents of Umuawulu community in Awka South LGA.

Sponsored by Ambassador Dr and Dr Mrs Elochukwu Agha, the one-day medical outreach program featured eyes test and treatment, distribution of free medical glasses, blood sugar and vital signs checks, as well as malaria test and free medication.

Speaking at St. Mark’s Anglican Church Enugwu Umuawulu, venue of the program, the Leader of the Medical Team for the exercise, Dr Chinecherem Muonaga, who encouraged other wealthy individuals to always organize such health program; as it helps in closing knowledge gaps on health issues, urged people, including those who received the medical attention, to always embark on period health checks.

Describing the medical outreach program as a thing of joy for residents of of Umuawulu community, some of the beneficiaries, including Chief Christopher Nwozor, Mr Godwin Okolo and Mrs Joy Okafor, who spoke to the ABS after receiving medical attention, thanked their benefactors for attending their health needs.

# St Patrick’s College, Awka has emerged the winner of national quiz competition of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, NILDS, Abuja; conducted for secondary schools in Anambra State.

Speaking during the quiz competition held at Anambra State House of Assembly complex in Awka, the Director General of the NILDS, Professor Abubakar Sulaiman, represented by Principal Training Officer of the institute, Uchenna Okechukwu, explained that the aim of the quiz was to deepen knowledge of legislative and democratic governance at secondary school level, as well as inspire young Nigerians to cultivate the habit of participating in legislative governance.

On his part, Mr Edmund Udeaja, who represented the Ministry of Education in the quiz competition, disclosed that the exercise was designed to broaden the students knowledge of legislature and democracy, saying that it will help them develop interest in politics and become good leaders.

The Chairman of Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Education, Honourable Anayor Okpalaeke, commended the institute for conducting an intelligent debate for the schools, which he said will enhance the knowledge of young Nigerians in the legislature, while Anthony Okeke, who represented Saint Patrick’s College in the quiz competition, said the exercise has helped students to imbibe the culture of participating in politics and developing interest in state and national politics.

# Reporters in Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, have been tutored on how to cover elections and stay safe.

Addressing the journalists during an in-house training of the News Department staff held at the Radio wing of the ABS Newsroom, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the ABS, Mr Christopher Molokwu, who also doubled as the lead resource person at the training centered on the topic; “Covering election in digital era”, advised them to always prepare emotionally, physically and mentally to be smart before going for election coverage, and to use their smart phones to feed the editing unit of the establishment by getting videos for minute-to-minute update on the exercise.

Dwelling on the topic; “Integrity Journalism”, the Director, News and Current Affairs Department of the ABS, Mrs Judy-Jeff Nwabueze, among other things, called on journalists working with the establishment to always be at their beats on time, and discharge their duties professionally.

On his part, the Head, Reportorial and Commentary units of ABS News Department, Mr Paul Ezeoke, who noted that journalists are celebrities and should regard themselves as so, urged colleagues avoid acts that tarnish their image, even as he charged the ABS reporters to engage professionally and represent the station as image makers of the establishment anywhere they found themselves.
