2027: Jonathan Will Be Nigeria’s Next President – Gana

Former Minister of Information and National Orientation, Professor Jerry Gana, has declared that ex-President Goodluck Jonathan will return to the ballot in the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Gana, speaking at the PDP Niger State Congress in Minna on Saturday, said Nigerians had tested leadership under two different presidents since Jonathan left office in 2015 and were now calling for his return.
“In 2015, Jonathan said his ambition was not worth the blood of Nigerians. After him, another President ruled for eight years, and now another has ruled for two years.
Nigerians have seen the difference, and the difference is very clear.
Nigerians are now asking us to bring back our friend, Jonathan,” Gana told journalists.
He assured party supporters that Jonathan would contest as the PDP’s candidate in 2027.
“I can confirm that Jonathan will contest the presidential election in 2027 as a PDP candidate, and we should be prepared to vote for him to return as President again,” Gana said.
The Niger State congress produced Aliyu Halidu as the new state chairman of the PDP, while Khadi Kuta was returned unopposed as secretary.
Mrs. Salome Ndakosu emerged as woman leader.
In his acceptance speech, Halidu urged members to work together to secure power in 2027, stressing that the PDP must deliver a people-oriented government.
In Adamawa, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri echoed optimism about the party’s readiness for the next elections. Addressing journalists at the Yola congress, he said:
“We are trying to birth a new PDP where everyone will believe, trust, and have confidence in. We are really positioned, and we are ready for 2027.”
However, the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State shifted the spotlight to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
The party accused Atiku of exploiting the recent terrorist attack in Wagga Mongoro, Madagali Local Government, for political gain.
In a statement signed by its state publicity secretary, Mohammed Abdullahi, the APC described Atiku’s reaction as insensitive and politically motivated.
“Atiku once again proved that tragedy, for him, is not a moment of sober reflection, but a stage for cheap politics.
Instead of standing with the grieving, he rushed to issue a hollow statement riddled with inaccuracies,” the party said.
The APC added that while Atiku remained silent during previous Boko Haram invasions of Adamawa communities, he “suddenly found his voice not to unite, but to exploit.”
With Jonathan’s expected comeback, the PDP is projecting unity and strength ahead of 2027.
But with the APC already taking aim at Atiku, internal and external party battles are shaping the road to what could become one of Nigeria’s most heated presidential contests in recent history.
