FG pumps N250bn into Kaduna, Kano light rail projects to revolutionize transport DDM News

The Federal Government has secured about N250 billion in funding for light rail development in Kaduna and Kano States.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, at the World Press Conference on Monday in Abuja, Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports.
Alhaji Idris said President Bola Tinubu is committed to massive development across all regions of the country.
He described claims suggesting otherwise as misleading.
“Contrary to perceptions being circulated in certain quarters, this administration has shown extraordinary commitment to inclusive and balanced development since taking office,” he said.
The minister stressed that the distribution of capital projects under the current administration is equitable.
He noted that no geopolitical zone is being left behind.
According to Idris, the Federal Government is actively supporting sub-national infrastructure projects.
He cited the light rail projects in Kano and Kaduna States as prime examples.
Funding for the Kano light rail project has been secured at N150 billion.
The Kaduna light rail project has been allocated N100 billion.
These allocations are intended to fast-track construction and improve urban transportation systems in both states.
“The administration’s support underscores its commitment to providing world-class infrastructure that enhances mobility and economic growth,” Idris added.
The minister also highlighted efforts to strengthen local government areas as key drivers of grassroots development.
He said local governments are being fiscally reintegrated to act as catalysts for growth.
“The President is determined to make the financial autonomy of local governments fully operational,” Idris said.
This initiative is expected to empower communities and improve service delivery.
Idris pointed out that state governments now receive significantly higher allocations from the federation account.
He explained that the removal of the oil subsidy has increased fiscal headroom for sub-national governments.
This enables them to undertake more development initiatives with less reliance on debt.
He emphasized that the increase in resources allows states to improve public services and expand social infrastructure.
The Federal Government’s focus on transportation infrastructure is expected to boost economic growth.
Improved rail networks are anticipated to reduce urban congestion and enhance trade.
The projects will also create new employment opportunities in both states.
“The light rail projects in Kaduna and Kano are designed to integrate with other urban development initiatives,” Idris noted.
He said this will facilitate efficient movement of people and goods within the states.
The Minister concluded by reiterating the administration’s vision for equitable development.
He affirmed that every region stands to benefit from ongoing projects.
“President Tinubu’s agenda is focused on leaving no region behind,” Idris said.
He added that supporting sub-national projects lays a strong foundation for inclusive national development.
With N250 billion earmarked for these light rail projects, the Federal Government is taking concrete steps to modernize transportation, empower local governments, and boost regional economic development.
