Gunmen Kill, Behead Farmer in Plateau

A 40-year-old farmer, Ishaku Abalis, has been brutally killed and beheaded in Panyam District of Mangu Local Government Area, Plateau State.
The National President of the Mwaghavul Development Association (MDA), Bulus Dabit, confirmed the shocking incident to journalists in Jos on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
He said the gruesome attack occurred amid a series of violent assaults and kidnappings in Panyam and Pushit districts.
Dabit described the killing as another tragic sign of insecurity ravaging the region.
He stressed the urgent need for the creation of state police, insisting that local policing is crucial to complement federal security efforts.
“Abalis’ head was cut off and taken away by the killers. The local security outfits are aware.
The Sector Commander in Mangu LGA has mobilised his men and is aware of continued attacks. The DPO in Mangu is also aware,” he explained.
The MDA president called for a robust deployment of security personnel in vulnerable communities.
According to him, visible security presence would help deter further attacks, restore confidence among residents, and safeguard innocent lives from what he described as “enemies of progress.”
He urged security agencies to intensify operations to identify and arrest those behind the recurring assaults.
Meanwhile, both the Media and Information Officer of Operation Enduring Peace, Major Samson Zhakom, and the Plateau State Police Command spokesman, DSP Alabo Alfred, did not respond to inquiries at the time of filing this report.
The latest killing has heightened fears across Mangu, a local government already battered by waves of violence.
Many residents are now demanding urgent government action to prevent more bloodshed in farming communities.
