Tinubu Mourns Arise TV Anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Somtochukwu ‘Sommie’ Maduagwu, a promising Arise News anchor, who was murdered during a robbery attack at her residence in Katampe, Abuja.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described Maduagwu’s death as a cruel and condemnable act that robbed Nigeria of a rising star in journalism.
“Ms. Maduagwu was a brilliant professional journalist whose life was cut short in a most tragic manner,” Tinubu said.
The President extended heartfelt condolences to her family, the management and staff of Arise News Television, and the entire Nigerian media community.
He urged them to find strength in her legacy of hard work and professionalism.
Tinubu also directed security and law enforcement agencies to carry out a quick and thorough investigation into the incident.
He stressed that the perpetrators must be tracked down and brought to justice without delay.
The President assured Nigerians that his administration remains committed to the safety and protection of all citizens.
He emphasized that the government is working to strengthen security measures and intensify the fight against violent crime.
“The Nigerian government will not relent in addressing insecurity and safeguarding every citizen,” Tinubu pledged.
Maduagwu’s murder has sparked nationwide outrage, with media organizations and civil society groups calling for urgent reforms to tackle violent crimes in the capital.
The tragedy follows a worrying trend of rising insecurity in Abuja, with journalists and professionals increasingly targeted by criminal gangs.
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Abuja chapter, also mourned the late anchor, describing her death as a devastating blow to the media industry.
As investigations continue, both the Presidency and the Federal Capital Territory Administration, led by Nyesom Wike, have promised full support to law enforcement agencies to ensure justice is served.
