Akwa Ibom: CNG buses, aviation expansion, mega projects mark 38 years of progress DDM News

 

The Akwa Ibom State Government says it has achieved remarkable progress across key sectors within Governor Umo Eno’s two years.

Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, announced this on Tuesday during a joint press briefing in Uyo, Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathers.

He was flanked by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekem John, and the Chief Press Secretary, Ekerete Udoh.

Umanah revealed that 50 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses have been procured to modernise public transportation.

He added that construction of ultra-modern bus terminals and stations has already commenced across the state.

According to him, these projects are guided by the ARISE Agenda and coincide with Akwa Ibom’s 38th anniversary celebrations.

The commissioner disclosed that over 771 kilometres of roads are currently at different stages of construction.

He also announced that 31 completed bridges are ready for commissioning by the state government.

In the aviation sector, four new aircraft have been acquired to expand the Ibom Air fleet.

He said construction of the Aviation Village is ongoing, alongside the completion of a new terminal building.

The state has also finished the Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility at Victor Attah International Airport.

On security, Umanah noted the creation of the Ministry of Internal Security and Waterways.

He disclosed that 4,500 community watch personnel have been recruited to strengthen grassroots safety.

The government has provided gunboats, patrol vehicles, and launched a Security and Command Centre to combat insecurity.

Tourism has also witnessed growth, with ecological remediation ongoing on 70 hectares of degraded land.

Construction of the ARISE Resort, a 5,000-capacity convention centre, and the ARISE Shopping City is underway.

Over 10,000 youths and SMEs have benefited from empowerment and training initiatives across the state.

He revealed that a 2,000-capacity amphitheatre is being built for the annual Christmas Unplugged event.

The ₦100 million Creative Industry Fund is promoting talent development, training, and film production opportunities.

In agriculture, the Ibom Model Farm has been established to boost modern farming techniques.

The government has launched the Arise Home Farms Scheme and the Back-to-Farm Initiative.

Farmers are receiving inputs to strengthen food production and ensure food security.

In health, functional centres now exist across all local government areas.

The state has launched a Health Insurance Scheme to guarantee affordable care for residents.

A 350-bed International Hospital is under construction in the state.

Emergency ambulance services and a Medical Oxygen Plant have also been introduced.

Umanah confirmed that more medical personnel have been recruited to expand the state’s health workforce.

“These achievements demonstrate Governor Umo Eno’s commitment to impactful governance within two years,” he declared.

As Akwa Ibom marks 38 years, the government pledged to sustain development under the ARISE Agenda framework.
