Ekiti Woman in Court for Receiving Stolen Phone, Power Bank

A 27-year-old woman, Funsho Oluwatosin, was on Friday arraigned before the Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly receiving stolen property.

Ms Oluwatosin, whose address was not provided, is facing a charge of receiving stolen property, to which she pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant and others at large allegedly committed the offence on April 30 at the Superlian hostel on Iworoko Road in Ado-Ekiti.

He alleged that the defendant received a phone valued at ₦145,000 and a power bank valued at ₦75,000, along with ₦260,000 cash from one Saliu Muhammed, believed to belong to one Rotimi Fadahunsi.

Mr Oriyomi said the offence contravened Section 428 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to assemble his witnesses.

Counsel to the defendant, Olayinka Adelusi, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that she would not jump bail.

The chief magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant N100,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case until October 20 for a hearing.
