JUST IN: Tinubu’s minister accused of parading fake university certificate

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has officially denied issuing the Bachelor of Science degree certificate presented by Uche Nnaji, the current Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation.
According to the university, Mr. Nnaji did not complete his studies and was never awarded a degree.
This revelation comes amidst allegations of certificate forgery that have greeted Mr. Nnaji since July 2023, when President Bola Tinubu nominated him as one of the first batch of 28 ministers in his cabinet following his inauguration in May 2023.
Some concerned stakeholders had accused Mr. Nnaji of submitting counterfeit documents, including both his bachelor’s degree and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate, to President Tinubu, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the State Security Service, and the Nigerian Senate.
Moreover, following this accusations, a Freedom of Information request was officially lodged by PREMIUM TIMES to UNN Vice-Chancellor, Professor Simon U. Ortuanya.
He confirmed in a letter dated October 2, 2025, that Mr. Nnaji was admitted to the university in 1981 with Matriculation Number 1981/30725.
However, the university found no records indicating that he completed his program or graduated in July 1985, as he claimed.
Professor Ortuanya stated categorically that “UNN DID NOT and consequently, COULD NOT have issued the purported certificate.”
The university’s statement aligns with an earlier letter from May 2025, sent to the Public Complaints Commission, which similarly confirmed that Mr. Nnaji was not a graduate of UNN.
This development has added more weight to the controversy surrounding Mr. Nnaji’s credentials, raising further concerns about his eligibility to serve in President Tinubu’s cabinet.
