# Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo warned against collecting taxes from Petty Traders in the state, citing harsh economy.
Soludo gave the warning while addressing a crowd of supporters in a rally at Ekwulọbịa, Aguata Local Government Area of the state.
The Governor urged local authorities to refrain from collecting fees from poor traders. The call was after a visit to Eke market in Awgbu where he observed that levies were still being collected from petty traders with less than N100,000 capital, against government directive.
# A Journalism teacher, Dr Davidson Azubuike Nkala, has expressed worry over the harsh condition under which Journalism practitioners, who constitute the very strategic Fourth Estate of the Realm, operate in Nigeria.
Dr Nkala delivered an exciting lecture on the unfortunate situation to members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Chapter, during their October 2025 Monthly Congress, held at the Godwin Ezeemo International Press Centre, Awka.
The experienced Journalism practitioner and University Don identified a lot of the impediments on the path of the practitioners including hostility from public agencies, poor encouragement and appreciation from the public, poor pay, poor tools of operation etc.
Delving analytically into the difficulties, he asked the ‘pen-pushers’ to regard them as energizing challenges, and push on with their crucial duty to the society.
Dr Nkala, emphasizing on the resolve to refuse being intimidated, counselled the practitioners to make out time and resources as they practice to expand the scope of their means of livelihood for now and the future, pointing out that life could harsh without such arrangement.
# A tragic road traffic crash occurred on Saturday October 4, 2025, near the BASCO Hotel in Ihiala on the Ihiala-Owerri Road.
The incident involved six vehicles, resulting in one fatality (1 male) and four injuries (4 males). A total of eight individuals (all males) were involved in the collision.

A Mack trailer, a Lexus 350 SUV with registration number YAB-131-DA, an Inveco truck with registration number ABC-693-XD, a Mitsubishi L300 truck with registration number JJJ-488-SQ, a Toyota Camry with registration number MKA-331-AA, an Inveco tipper with registration number HAL-604-ZX
“The FRSC rescue team from RS5.34 Ihiala responded promptly, evacuating the injured victims to the hospital. They are also working to clear the scene and restore normal traffic flow.
“FRSC Anambra State Command appeals to motorists to be cautious and patient while driving, especially on highways. We also encourage witnesses to report crashes promptly to our Command centers or through our toll-free number 122 for any road emergencies”. Onabe stated.
According to eyewitnesses, the trailer was reportedly speeding, experienced brake failure, lost control, and collided with the other five vehicles. This account provides a disturbing insight into the sequence of events leading up to the crash.
The injured victims were swiftly transported to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Ihiala for medical attention. Tragically, one of the victims, the driver of the Lexus, was pronounced dead and has been deposited in the hospital’s morgue.
# A foremost Awka born teacher, disciplinarian and community leader, Elder Lawrence Nwonyibor Nwozor has finally joined the ancestors, in the world beyond,
especially when his people sort his presence the most most, being the oldest person in Umueduochie, Eziakpaka and Ogonogoezi all in Ifite Awka community.
Nwozor was popularly known as “Sir White” by many who knew him personally apart from the other recognizable name he is known with “Ifeaafuluagha” depicting the horror of the Nigerian-Biafran Civil War of which he was a survivor as an adult.
He probably was terrified by the experience and told the tales vividly for the name to stuck, just as his other name “Sir White” for his love of white, most times adorning white lace clothe with the customary beard all joined to make the name unique to his personality.
Sir White taught in different schools in the old Anambra State, including different secondary schools in different communities and finally retired from Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe in 1991.
# Sector Commander FRSC, Anambra State, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno extends her sympathies to the family of the deceased victim of a road traffic crash occurred on Saturday October 4, 2025, near the BASCO Hotel in Ihiala on the Ihiala-Owerri Road.
Asekhauno wishes a quick recovery to the injured. She emphasized the importance of defensive driving techniques and adherence to traffic regulations.
“We urge all drivers to exercise caution, drive within the designated speed limit, and maintain maximum concentration while driving.”
# As the November 8th 2025 Anambra Governorship Election, Ekwulọbịa community in Aguata local government area has endorsed the candidacy of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo with eighty million naira support.
A cheque was presented to the Governor, alongside his Deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim at a rally in Ekwulọbịa Stadium on Saturday, October 4th 2025.
In his speech the Governor expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support, stating that the campaign has now transformed into a people’s movement, noting that Jim Nwobodo had designated Awka, Onitsha, Nnewi, and Ekwulọbịa as city-status locations, but it seemed Ekwulọbịa was overlooked along the way.
Soludo emphasized the need for serious planning for Ekwulọbịa to truly achieve city status and proposed the establishment of a committee focused on town planning.
In terms of trade, he made it clear that petty traders should no longer be targeted for collection, warning that any violators would face arrest and reaffirmed a commitment to free education and free antenatal care and delivery services, among other services for the underprivileged.
# To commemorate his one year in office, the Mayor of Dunukofia LGA and Co-chairman (Operations) for Soludo/Ibezim Re-election Campaign Council in Dunukofia, Hon. Chijioke C. Ozumba, Esq, has delivered yet another landmark project, a one-storey building comprising 24 modern lock-up shops in the Nawgu community.
The project was executed under his flagship “Community Choose Your Project” initiative, which empowers communities in Dunukofia to decide their most pressing needs while the Local Government provides the resources and implementation. Nawgu, through this initiative, requested modern shops to boost commerce, empower traders, and stimulate grassroots economic growth.
The shops were officially commissioned on Friday, 3rd October, 2025 by the Anambra State Commissioner for Lands, Prof. Offornze Amucheazi (SAN) and Chairman of the Soludo/Ibezim Re-election Campaign Council in Dunukofia who applauded Bar. Ozumba for celebrating his first anniversary in office with a people-centered project.
In his anniversary message during the commissioning, Bar. Ozumba reaffirmed his commitment to transformative leadership, stating:

# Tensions are escalating within the Anambra State Football Association (AnSFA) as prominent lawyer and football stakeholder, Barr. Ikechukwu Igbokwe, has issued a Pre-Action Notice against Chikelue Iloenyosi, Chairman of the AnSFA, and the Nigeria Police, Anambra State Command.
The notice stems from what Igbokwe described as his unlawful arrest and detention for three days, allegedly instigated by Iloenyosi over matters relating to football governance and personal allegations.
In the petition titled “Re: Conduct of Officers/Men of Commissioner’s Monitoring Unit (X-Squad), Awka”, submitted through his legal representatives Obinna Ugah & Associates to the Commissioner of Police, Igbokwe demands a public apology and an investigation into the actions of the officers involved.
Igbokwe stated that he had been on his way to a meeting with the Anambra State Sports Development Commission when he was intercepted. The officers informed him that the Commissioner of Police needed to see him, but instead of being taken to the CP’s office, he was taken to the X-Squad office where a petition written by Iloenyosi was read to him.
