Troops of the Nigerian Army have achieved a major breakthrough in counterterrorism operations, eliminating Kachalla Maidawa, a notorious terrorist kingpin, alongside 35 other insurgents.

The operations, conducted between September 29 and October 4, 2025, also led to the arrest of 32 suspected terrorists and the rescue of 22 kidnapped victims.

A cache of weapons and logistics items was recovered, including three AK-47 rifles, seven magazines, 780 rounds of ammunition, four motorcycles, three Dane guns, a fragmentation jacket, mobile phones, and other supplies.

In collaboration with the Nigerian Navy, DSS, Police, and Hybrid Forces, troops thwarted a planned terrorist attack in Isanlu, Yagba West LGA.

During a fierce firefight, over 12 terrorists, including Kachalla Maidawa, were neutralized. Maidawa had long terrorized communities across Kogi East and Kwara State.

Also, troops of 1 Brigade ambushed terrorists along the Salka–Kinke–Makurdi road in Ngaski LGA, killing two insurgents and rescuing eight kidnapped victims. Recovered items included seven AK-47 magazines, 180 rounds of ammunition, and two motorcycles.

In Giwa and Birnin Gwari LGAs, troops disrupted criminal activities, including a ₦3 million ransom delivery involving new motorcycles meant for terrorists.

Five kidnapped victims were rescued, and several bandits were neutralized. At a checkpoint in Zangon Kataf LGA, two suspected kidnappers were intercepted with ₦1.3 million, leading to follow-up operations that neutralized two syndicate members.

In Borno State, troops of 151 Task Force Battalion ambushed and killed five ISWAP/JAS terrorists in Dipchari, Bama LGA.

Additional operations by 3 Battalion and 24 Task Force Brigade along the Gamboru–Wulgo road resulted in the arrest of ISWAP logistics and drug suppliers, along with the recovery of illicit items.

In Monguno, 12 suspects, including a terrorist tax collector, were arrested, crippling parts of the insurgents’ intelligence network.

While in the Southeast region, Operation UDO KA troops raided IPOB/ESN hideouts in Abia and Imo states, arresting several suspects, including one linked to the abduction and killing of the Vice Chancellor of the Federal Polytechnic, Afikpo.

Anotorious foot soldier of an IPOB/ESN commander was neutralized, and an AK-47 rifle, two magazines, and 14 rounds of ammunition were recovered.

Under Operation DELTA SAFE, troops uncovered and destroyed multiple illegal oil refining sites in Rivers and Bayelsa states, recovering over 2,000 liters of stolen crude oil. Fourteen drug peddlers were arrested in collaboration with the NDLEA.

Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke neutralized an armed suspect in Benue State, rescued six kidnapped victims in Taraba State, and arrested arms suppliers and suspected collaborators in Sokoto and Kano States.

These coordinated operations underscore the military’s intensified efforts to secure the nation, disrupt terrorist networks, and restore peace across affected regions.
