W’Cup Qualifiers: Super Eagles make late squad adjustments as injuries hit squad

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has made two late adjustments to Nigeria’s squad ahead of their crucial final 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Lesotho on October 10 and Benin Republic on October 14.

After initially naming a 23-man roster on Friday, injuries to striker Cyril Dessers and right-back Bright Osayi-Samuel forced Chelle to bring in replacements.

Zaidu Sanusi has been called up to replace Osayi-Samuel, while Uche Christantus steps in for Dessers.

Nigeria currently sits third in Group C with 11 points, trailing Benin Republic and South Africa, who both have 14 points.

However, South Africa’s position was recently weakened after FIFA docked them three points for fielding an ineligible player, keeping Nigeria’s qualification hopes alive.

These final matches are critical as the Super Eagles push to secure their spot in next year’s tournament.
