BREAKING: Police suspend enforcement of tinted glass permit

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced the suspension of the enforcement of the vehicle tinted glass permit, following a court order stopping the exercise.

While confirming the development, the spokesperson of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, stated on Wednesday during an interview on AIT that the police have decided to comply with the court’s directive.

According to Adeh, the suspension takes immediate effect and will remain in place until further legal clarifications and directives are issued.

“The order has been received, and enforcement of the tinted permit is now on hold pending the court’s verdict”, she said.

She emphasized that the police are committed to respecting the judicial process and will await the final court decision.

“We are not against the courts. We will continue to wait until we get a verdict”, she added.

Addressing public concerns, Adeh explained that the tinted glass regulation was introduced for security purposes, as criminals had exploited darkened windows to carry out illegal activities, making it harder for law enforcement to identify suspects.

“The law was not made by us. We are simply enforcers. The policy was purely security-driven”, she clarified.

Adeh also dismissed allegations that the policy was a means of generating revenue for the police, noting that all payments for tinted permits are made directly into the Federal Government’s Treasury Single Account (TSA) and not to the police.

The suspension will remain in effect until the legal process is concluded.
