# Members of the Anambra State Correspondents’ Chapel have expressed deep sorrow over the sudden demise of Mr. Alphous Nweze, describing him as a dedicated and passionate journalist who made significant contributions to the profession.
The Anambra State-based journalist, tragically died in a motor accident along the Asaba–Onitsha Expressway.
The death of Nweze, a former Champion correspondent in Onitsha, was confirmed by a member of the Nsukka Patriotic Platform in Asaba, Delta State.
According to reports from the group, Mr. Nweze had boarded the ill-fated bus at the Bridge Head, Onitsha, en route to Asaba.
# Anambra State Government have been called to de-lump road construction budget to promote transparency and easy monitoring by civic actors.
Some Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in consortium made the call during the Anambra State Budget Forum on Livelihood Matters and Human Capital Development.
The CSOs also called for the design and construction of disability-friendly roads and bus stops, noting that ministries of Works and Housing should reflect such plans in their budgets.
On education, the consortium called on the state government to clarify the scope of its free education policy for better public understanding and scrutiny.

# Anambra Police Command has
commiserates with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and State Correspondents Chapel over the tragic and untimely demise of Mr. Alphonsus Nweze.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP. Ikioye Orutugu, on behalf of the officers, in a press release described mourn the death of late Nweze,
describing him as a dedicated journalist.
Nweze, a member of the Correspondents Chapel, lost his life in a fatal road accident along the Onitsha–Asaba Expressway.
# The Mayor of Dunukofia LGA Hon. Chijioke Ozumba, warmly received the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, during his official visit to Dunukofia for the commissioning of the newly renovated NSCDC Divisional Office in the Local Government Secretariat.
Bar. Ozumba, while welcoming the Commandant General and his entourage, described the occasion as historic and a major milestone for grassroots security in Dunukofia LGA.
He noted that the renovation and upgrading of the Civil Defence Office would significantly strengthen the Corps’ operational capacity in protecting lives, property, and critical national assets in the council area.
He further pledged his administration’s unwavering partnership with the NSCDC and other security agencies in sustaining peace and good governance, while also commending Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, whose Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiative made the project possible.
*The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Anambra State Council regrets to put on hold the very much prepared debate for the Deputy Governor and Governorship Candidates slated for 8th and 15th October, 2025 respectively ahead of the November 8, gubernatorial election in the state.
This uneasy decision arose from complicated unforeseen circumstances.
The union urge the candidates who have complained about the late receipt of our letter to question the internal responsiveness of their aides.
The union call on all candidates of the political parties with their supporters to shun all irrelevant scheming to thwart the NUJ’s pursuit of fair play for the debate in particular and the election in general.
