BREAKING: Trump Loses the Nobel Peace Prize 2025

Rep. Riley M. Moore has petitioned the administration of President Donald Trump to “designate Nigeria a Country of Particular Concern” (CPC).

This was disclosed in a letter written by Rep. Moore, a Republican congressman representing West Virginia’s 2nd District in the U.S. House of Representatives since January 2025.

The letter was addressed to the United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio.

In the letter entitled “We must designate Nigeria a Country of Particular Concern”, Moore urged Rubio to designate Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern to unlock diplomatic levers to protect Christians in the country.

The call arose from the recent report by Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) wherein the federal government of Nigeria denied international reports of genocide against Christians in Nigeria.

Destruction of lives and properties belonging to Christians, churches

The DDM report, on the other hand, was based on a research conducted by Intersociety showing a systemic destruction of lives and properties belonging to Christians and churches in Nigeria.

Consequently, several authorities across Europe and the United States asked their governments to intervene.

Some of such voices mentioned in the report include Senator Ted Cruz, television host, Bill Maher, and political commentator, Van Jones.

Senator Cruz alleged that Nigerian officials are ignoring or facilitating the mass murder of Christians by Islamist jihadists.

Maher equally claimed that Christians in Nigeria are being “systematically killed” in what he described as a genocide attempt.

Jones, meanwhile, referred to killing of Christians in Nigeria as “a crime against African people, black people, and human rights”.

“Protect our brothers and sisters in Christ”

Following the denial of the Nigerian government, Moore urged Rubio to escalate the Nigerian matter to elicit the necessary concern.

He wrote: “Nigeria is the deadliest country in the world for Christians and the world stands by silently.

“That’s why I’m urging Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, to designate Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern to unlock diplomatic levers to protect our brothers and sisters in Christ.

“Since Boko Haram’s insurgency in 2009, more than 50,000 Christians have been murdered and more than 5 million have been displaced.

“Just this year, a priest was kidnapped and murdered on Ash Wednesday.

“54 Christians were martyred on Palm Sunday.

“At least 250 priests have been attacked or killed in the last decade.

“More than 19,000 churches have been attacked or destroyed since 2009– averaging three per day.

“In addition to concerning reports of cells of the Nigerian government’s potential involvement in these attacks, officials at both state and federal levels are also often hostile to Christians.

“This includes forcing the closure of Christian orphanages and forced conversions.

“Both federal and some state governments enforce anti-blasphemy laws.

“One individual was sentenced to 24 years in prison for “insulting the Prophet Mohammed.”

“Others face the death penalty for similar reasons.”

Trump once designated Nigeria as CPC

Moore recalled that President Trump designated Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern at the end of his first administration, but was undone by President Joe Biden.

He also recalled that Rubio then signed a letter urging Blinken to reverse the course.

Writing, Rubio told the then Secretary of State, Blinken, that “the moment demands that you do so without delay.”

Reiterating the call, Moore said: “I agree.

“We can’t turn a blind eye as our brothers and sisters in faith face martyrdom for proclaiming the name of Christ.

“We must designate Nigeria a Country of Particular Concern,” he asserted.
