* The Anambra State Government has sealed several scraped depots at Ogbunike, Tarzan, and Nkpor axis of Enugu-Onitsha expressway for blocking roads and drainages with materials.
The action of the depots contradicts the approved physical plan for the state, ruins the aesthetics of the state, and violates environmental regulations.
The Managing Director Of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade, Comrade Celestine Anere during the inspection tour with officials from the agency, stated that the move was part of ongoing efforts to ensure environmental compliance and to maintain order in the state.
According to him, the scrap materials were visibly piled on the roads, reducing available space for road users and obstructing drainage by covering the gutters.
* The Anambra State Government has shut down Eke Hit’s shrine in Okija and arrested him over alleged involvement in ritual practices linked to fraudulent wealth-making.
Officials acted after complaints from residents and a viral video where he allegedly admitted to performing Oke Ite, Yahoo Plus, and Awele.
His properties have been seized, and items from the shrine will undergo forensic analysis.
* Elder Statesman, Dr. Chike Obidigbo, has expressed dismay at the trial of immediate former Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), stressing that the trial smacks of political persecution rather than fight against corruption.
Obidigbo regretted that the anti-graft agency seems to have become willing tools in the hands of desperate politicians and malicious businessmen that have axe to grind with their opponents, adding that for EFCC to keep losing many court cases shows that all is not well with its standard operating mechanism.
In a statement to media organisations, Obidigbo argued that the idea of trying state governors after their tenure runs counter to the spirit and letters of the Nigeria’s constitution.
He argued that there is no way the same constitution that grants immunity to state chief executives would empower an external organ to subject them to post-service inquisition, noting that the EFCC should stop overstepping its constitutional bounds by elevating itself as a superior organ to the state House of Assembly.
* Anambra State has reaffirmed its commitment to digital governance and revenue automation by participating in the Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) and Intelligent Revenue Authority (IRA) Validation Workshop.
Organized by the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), the workshop provided a strategic platform for states to assess their readiness for DPI implementation.
The Anambra delegation, comprising officers from the Anambra ICT Agency and Anambra Internal Revenue Service (AIRS), engaged in discussions on best practices, policy alignment, and technology-driven solutions for improving governance.
* The Commissioner of Police Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu has received the Zonal and New Executives of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices.
CP Orutugu while speaking during the visit at his office in the Police Command Headquarters, Awka, charged the members to redouble their efforts in sustaining advocacy to discourage the teeming youths in the State from joining bad groups.
He also pledged to support the Campaign as his administration is already in contact with relevant agencies in the State to roll out initiatives that would instill values, morals and character traits among the youths.
During the interactions, the leader of the delegate, the National Director, Contact and Strategic Communications, Engr. Humphrey C. Nsofor, alongside the South East Zonal Chairman, Chief Okolie Amaechi Sadiq, the New Chairman of POCACOV Anambra State, Hon. Kingsley Ezika, and other key members stated that the visit is to foster partnership and synergy between POCACOV and the Anambra State Police Command.
* Sequel to the dissolution of Etiti-Nimo Quaters Union Executive, based on inconsistency and expiration of tenure, the National Officers Committee (NOC) of Nimo Town Development Union (NTDU) has appointed a six man Committee to run the affairs of the union for a maximum of of six (6) months within which they will conduct an election to elect new executives.
The six man Caretaker Committee are; Hon. Charles Otie (Chairman), Mr. Uche Atupulazi (Vice Chairman), Hon. IK Obiji (Secretary), Mr. Uchenna Akpuoye (Financial Secretary), Mr. Emmanuel Anatuanya (Treasurer) and Mr. Ifeanyi Akpuoye (Public Relations Officer).
The President General Nimo Town Development Union (NTDU) Engr. Dan Zeelunjo Anikpe before Inugurating the Committee tasked the new executive to be selfless in service. Anikpe assured them that the the National Officers Committee of NTDU is ever ready in assisting them to succeed in the task ahead.
* The State Commandant Nigeria Security And Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command, Comdt. Maku Olatunde has expressed the commitment of the Corps in ensuring security in schools.
Commandant Maku stated this in his office at the State Command Headquarters, Awka when he received on a courtesy visit the Director/ Principal of the Federal Science and Technical College Awka, Dr. Kelvin Ude.
Speaking during the visit, Dr. Kelvin said they were in the Command to familiarize themselves and solicit for collaboration they have enjoyed with the Corps in the past years.
* The President General (PG) of Nimo Town Development Union (NTDU), Engr. Dan Zeelunjo Anakpe says all native doctors and non-indigenes will be documented in accordance with the directives of Anambra State government.
Zeelunjo Anakpe while speaking in a press conference on Friday at NTDU Secretariat,
stated that Governor Chukwuma Soludo has issued a new directive based on the Anambra Homeland Security law passed by the state House of Assembly.
” After the meeting with the Anambra state government, it was resolved that the Chairman of all Security outfit in communities is now the President General. We have started re-organization of our security architecture in Nimo so that we can tackle the challenges confronting us. I call on all to support us in achieving this goal in sanitizing our environment.
* A Federal High Court in Awka, Anambra State, has scheduled March 4, 2025, for a ruling on a motion that could potentially block Governor Charles Soludo from seeking reelection.
The motion, filed by activist Dr. Ifeanyichukwu Okonkwo, alleges that Soludo and six others, including former governors and government officials, have violated the 1999 constitution by running the state’s local government areas without democratically elected officials.
Okonkwo is seeking several reliefs, including a court order banning Soludo and his predecessors from contesting elections or holding public office. He also demands that the defendants render a public account of all funds expended during their administrations and pay exemplary damages of N100 billion.
* An aspirant for the vacant position of Anambra South Senatorial District of Anambra State at the Senate, Barr. Donald Chidi Amamgbo, has criticized the system where security agents are assigned to a few wealthy individuals, leaving the larger society to suffer.
Amamgbo, a U.S.-based lawyer and Anambra South Senatorial Aspirant on the platform of Labour Party (LP) made this statement while addressing journalists over the weekend on how he intends to address insecurity in his zone if elected the senator representing the zone.
He noted that for years, Anambra South, particularly Ihiala, Nnewi South, Orumba South, and other parts of the district, have been under siege by non-state actors, kidnappers, and criminal elements, who have turned once-thriving communities into theaters of fear and bloodshed.
