* Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) in its meeting supported NAFDAC’s initiative to purge markets of counterfeit and expired drugs, applauding Governor Soludo’s visit to the closed Drug Market in Onitsha. The Council urged NAFDAC to expedite inspection and verification, promising support.
To combat fake drugs, the Council decided to complete the Anambra State Pharmaceutical Hub, aka Coordinated Wholesale Drug Centre (CWC), at Oba.
* Stakeholders in Anambra State have urged the state police command to swiftly re-arrest the two suspected kidnappers and killers of the late Honourable Justice Azuka, who recently escaped from custody, just days after his burial, warning that failure to do so will further erode public confidence in the force.
Speaking in Awka, the immediate past Vice President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene, described the escape as an act of sabotage against Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s security efforts and a serious breach of public trust in the Nigerian Police Force, stressing that the police must urgently produce the escaped suspects to salvage their credibility.
Similarly, an Awka stakeholder, Chief Obi Ochije-Modilim while criticizing the police for what he termed gross incompetence and unprofessionalism in handling the case, alleged that the escape might have been orchestrated, questioning how high-profile criminals were left unrestrained.
Chief Ochije-Modilim then urged the new Anambra Commissioner of Police to act swiftly and ensure the suspects are re-arrested without delay in order to redeem his reputation.
* Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) in its meeting, approved strategic contracts, including:
– Reconstruction and fortification of the perimeter fence at the commissioners’ quarters, Awka, awarded to Aristan Developers Ltd at the cost of N57,500,000.00
– Construction of 2 NR model gates at general hospitals,with additional work of landscaping; interlocking and fencing of Enugwu-Otu Aguleri Hospital Compound awarded to Daluchukwu & Bros Impex Ltd at the cost of N310,718,114.73
– Repainting and renovation of the VIP stand, awarded to KUV Homes & Properties at the cost of N107,119,753.69
– Reclamation and control of flood and gully erosion at the Cosmetics Market, awarded to Acode Energy Services Ltd at the cost of N188,174,822.19
* The Catholic Bishop of Awka, Most Rev. Paulinus Chukwuemeka Ezeokafor, true to his unique interest in the integral development of the human person, has assured the members of the Accreditation Team of Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, NMCN, that the Diocese of Awka is intentional about the wellbeing and development of Nigerian children.
The Bishop made this known while receiving at his office at the Catholic Secretariat, Awka, the members of the Accreditation Team of Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, as well as the Anambra State Chapter.
According to the leader of the team, Dr. Olubunmi Adeola Lawal, the team came for the assessment and possible accreditation of the proposed Regina Caeli College of Nursing Sciences owned by the Catholic Diocese of Awka.
* Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) in its meeting urge Communities to collaborate with the government to eradicate criminality and insecurity. ANSEC thanked Ndi Anambra for supporting new security measures and reassured traditional worshippers that the fight against fetishism and sorcery would strengthen, not undermine, traditional worship.
Commissioner for Information Anambra State, Dr. Law Mefor in a press statement stated that the Council reaffirmed its commitment to combating evil native doctors who promote wealth without work, and warned against the promotion of Oke-Ite and similar fetish products.
* A top aspirant in the 2025 Governorship election in Anambra State (name withheld) has said he may pick Mrs Margaret Obi, the wife of the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) as his running mate.
According to the politician, that was part of his strategies to unseat the incumbent governor of the state, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, in the 2025 poll.
” Yes, I may pick the wife of our former governor and the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), as my running mate. That’s one way to attract the supporters of the OBIDIENT movement to my side and beat Soludo hands down in that election.
* The leading Aspirant for the Anambra South Senatorial District Bye-election, Barr Peter Ekwueme has reiterated the need for transparency and accountability in governance.
Ekwueme made the call during the National Executive Council meeting of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) held in Abuja.
Ekwueme stated that the surest way the people can reap the full benefits of the dividends of democracy is through an open, auditable accounting of resources that guarantees proper utilization and implementation of budgeted funds.
While addressing the press shortly after the meeting, Barr Ekwueme, who is also the founder of Peter Ekwueme Development Foundation (PEDEF), an organization focused on providing free legal, health, education and social support to the poor, downtrodden and oppressed decried the mal-administration, deceitful and ineffective representation experienced in Anambra South Senatorial zone in the past promising to fix the the rot through yearly open audited accounting of all the financial and non financial resources belonging to people of the Senatorial District.
* Mr. Peter Obi, Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party and Former Governor of Anambra State, commissioned three monumental projects in the Awka North and South Federal Constituency.
These projects, facilitated by Prof. Oby Lilian Orogbu include the construction of an access road to the Holy Family Youth Village in Amansea, as well as the rehabilitation of classrooms for Ezi-Awka Community Secondary School and Agulu Awka Primary School.
During the event, Mr. Peter Obi commended Prof. Orogbu’s efforts, stating that the lawmaker is doing exceptionally well in driving progress in our communities.
* MD/CEO of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), Mr. Mark Okoye on Monday, delivered a valedictory speech at the Anambra State Executive Council.
Okoye stated; “13 years ago, I received my first appointment as Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Investments, marking my transition from the private sector to public service.
“Today, with the permission of my Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, I had the privilege of delivering a valedictory speech at the Anambra State Executive Council.
“It was an opportunity to reflect on a journey that has shaped me in ways I never could have imagined.
“As I step into my new role as MD/CEO of the South East Development Commission, I carry with me the invaluable lessons of service knowing that hard work, disciplined execution, and relentless commitment always yield extraordinary results.
* Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) in its meeting bid farewell to Mr. Mark Okoye II, former Managing Director of the Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency (ANSIPPA), now pioneer MD/CEO of the Southeast Development Commission (SEDC).
Governor Chukwuma Soludo assured Okoye of government support and charged the South East Development Commission to focus on key projects, particularly the regional railway connecting the five South East states, citing its significant economic benefits.
