Man United aiming to replace Andre Onana with ‘brilliant’ Diogo Costa

Manchester United and Manchester City have reportedly set their sights on a common transfer target in the shape of Diogo Costa.
The 25-year-old is a Portuguese goalkeeper who cemented himself as the first choice for both club and country. He climbed his way up the ranks of Porto and has been part of the first team since 2019. Over the past few years, he rose to stardom, becoming one of the most sought-after custodians on the continent.
The Rothrist native was also hailed for his heroics at Euro 2024 when his shootout heroics powered Portugal past Slovenia. Former Chelsea and Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer applauded his ‘brilliant’ saves.
According to Fichajes.net, Man Utd are keeping close tabs on Costa whom they consider a right replacement for Onana. The latter has been largely dubbed as one of the club’s worst signings, if not the absolute worst.

The Cameroonian has been error prone since his arrival from Inter Milan in the summer of 2023, and his blunders continue to be drastically costly for the Red Devils who are already in full-blown crisis.
However, Costa wouldn’t come cheap, as the source reveals Porto would like to collect the full amount of his release clause set at €75 million. The Reds would naturally try to negotiate a deal with the Portuguese giants on lower figures, perhaps taking advantage of the player’s contract which is set to expire in two years.
However, United will reportedly face competition from their crosstown rivals Man City who are equally interested in the 25-year-old shot-stopper. The Cityzens firmly believe that Ederson’s run at the club has reached its expiry date, so they’ll be looking to add a fresh face to their ranks next summer.
