In a separate development, Governor Siminalayi Fubara is under pressure as lawmakers have imposed a strict 48-hour deadline for the presentation of the 2025 budget. This move has sparked political debate, raising questions about legislative control and its potential impact on the state’s development and public services.

Public Affairs Analyst Francis Chilaka provided insight into the situation during a recent interview. When asked if the lawmakers’ decision to impose such a deadline could be seen as a political maneuver to assert control over the governor’s fiscal policies, Chilaka responded:

“They’re doing it recklessly, and they’re not thinking straight. If they are thinking straight, the first thing they should do is to find a way to have peace in the state and then, you know giving him 48 hours for me, it’s not going to work and I know that Fubara will not agree to that, but I think that they should, they should, they should stop putting landmines in Rivers State because if Rivers State goes up in flames, they will not be recognized as honorable members anymore.”

Chilaka’s comments highlight the ongoing political tensions in Rivers State, with concerns that the actions of lawmakers could have destabilizing consequences for the region.
