* The Anambra State Government has vowed to take action against fraudulent religious leaders engaged in the sale of so-called healing waters, oils, and other deceptive practices.

Speaking on the development, the state’s Commissioner for Information, Dr. Mefor, stated that the government will target fake prophecies, staged miracles, and other dubious activities that exploit the public and promote crime or get-rich-quick schemes.

He further emphasized that the newly enacted Anambra State Homeland Security Law will not spare any individual or group involved in criminal activities, regardless of the religious guise under which they operate.

* The Chairman, Idemili South Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs. Amaka Obi alongside councillors and stakeholders, inspected ongoing construction of 1.3 kilometres of Umuegbu-Ukpaka Ndam Nnobi road.

Speaking during the inspection, Hon. Obi expressed satisfaction with the progress of the work. She appreciated Chief Emeka Agbanari for embracing Public Private Community Partnership (PPCP).

Hon. Obi noted that the quality of work met the high expectations set by government and encouraged the site engineer to maintain the standard throughout the project.

The Mayor said that Chief Agbanari has put smiles on the faces of his people and they will not forget his kind gesture. She urged residents to cooperate with the engineer and protect the equipments.

Obi further appealed to stakeholders in the council area to collaborate with the government for the development of their communities and the council area.

* The State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Anambra State Command, Maku Olatunde has issued a stern warning to iron scavengers, also known as “ndi akpakara” or “iron kwandem”, to cease destroying public and private properties in the state or face severe legal consequences.

Comdt Maku Olatunde, stated this through Superintendent of Corps, Okadigbo Edwin, Head of Media and Tactical Ops at the State Command Headquarters Awka on Wednesday while parading a suspect arrested by the command in collaboration with operatives of AVG Onitsha South LGA.

According to Comdt. Maku, Zakari Yahui, aged 25 from Misau town, Misau Local Government Area of Bauchi State, was apprehended at Silas Street, Fegge Onitsha.

* The Proprietor of Alelluia Football Academy of Awka, Mr Elochukwu Hyginus Nwosu has disclosed that the football academy was set up to raise the next generation of super stars from Awka through the instrumentality of football.

The Awka-born football scout and administrator stated this during a chat with sports writers in Awka on Wednesday, 5th March 2025.

Nwosu said that the aspiration of establishing the football academy for players of 13 years and below is to churn out hidden talents from the grassroots and bring them to limelight through the platform where they can be spotted by international scouts as well as fulfil the dreams of the young lads of playing professional football as a career while still in the course of their academic pursuit.

* To reduce vulnerabilities to corruption and for improved service delivery at work places and in society at large, the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Program (ROLAC), has in a two-day Capacity Building Workshop, held from March 3-4, 2025, trained the Anambra State Anti-Corruption Strategy ANSACS) Steering Committee from the State and the Local Government Service Commission (LGSC), to be better anti-corruption ambassadors.

The workshop held in Awka, Anambra State, had selected participants from the Anambra State Office of the Head of Service the State Ministry of Justice (MoJ) and the State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC), in attendance.

It had the Lead Consultant, Anti-Corruption Institutions and Systems Strengthening for ROLAC, Prof Ada Chidi-Igbokwe and another ROLAC Consultant, Prof Onyiukwu E. Onyiukwu, a professor of Economist at Institute for Development Studies, University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus (UNEC), as the resource trainers.

* Chairman of Anambra Football Association, ANSFA, General Chikelue Iloenyosi says the disciplinary action taken against the defending champions of the state President Cup, Solution FC, was not punitive in any way.

It will be recalled that the Anambra Football Association (FA) handed a five hundred thousand naira fine to the Nigeria National League (NNL) side in the aftermath of the alleged unruly behaviours during the final of the 2025 NEROS/ANSFA,President Federation Cup final at NEROS Stadium, Nanka.

According to Iloenyosi, a former Super Eagles defender, the decision was an action taken according to the true spirit and best interest of the game particularly to uphold it’s rules and regulations.

The FA boss while reacting on the matter, stated that the ‘FA Disciplinary Chamber’s’ decision was not punitive, adding that it was done in line with the rules and regulations governing association football as approved by both FIFA and CAF.

* The Managing Director of JulieMonreal Estate, Dr. Ejike Mmadunagu, has expressed the readiness of his company to reduce the housing deficit in Nigeria by supporting workers and traders to own their personal houses.

Dr. Mmadunagu spoke while fielding questions after addressing traders of Onitsha Main market, at the Market’s secretariat in Onitsha.

He said some people are afraid of building their own houses because they thought that building house is difficult but he came to tell the traders that building house is not as difficult as it appeared.

* Anambra- based philanthropist, Nze Chukwujekwu Ahabueze (Nze Abado Nwoke Aja), has donated three CCTV cameras, five Solar electricity street lights to Isiagu community in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, to combat the trending insecurity in the area

Ahabueze, made the donation during the community’s 2025 security summit held at the community town hall.

According to him, the donation was part of his strategy to ensure the safety of lives and properties and surveillance of critical Isiagu community assets and infrastructure in the area.

* Evangelist Ebuka Obi has pledged his backing for Governor Charles Soludo’s ongoing battle against ritualists and the dangerous “Okeite” practices that are increasingly affecting young people in the region.

Speaking out on the issue, Obi revealed that his fight against these harmful practices began over two years ago, and he is now fully committed to the crackdown.

He believes that the initiative will not only reduce the prevalence of ritualism but will also encourage young people to focus on hard work rather than falling prey to the allure of fast money.

* The pioneer Coordinator, Directorate for Civic and Political Affairs (DCPA) of the Diocese on the Niger, Anglican communion Ven Dr Emma Ukpeke, has warned over selling of votes by the electorates.

Ven Dr Ukpeke advised the people not to sell their votes, saying that the sale of one’s vote amounted to deliberate sale of one’s birthright.

Ukpeke spoke when the directorate organised a one-day brainstorming session at the All Saints’ Cathedral, Onitsha, during which new members and executives of all political parties in the state articulated a blueprint for the November, 2025 election.
