Good news for Man Utd as Jonathan David only want EPL move

Manchester United have received some positive updates on the Jonathan David front, as the Canadian striker is reportedly destined to play in the Premier League next season.

The Red Devils are looking to add a new striker to their ranks, after falling short in this particular quest in January. The team is in dire need of goals as Rasmus Hojlund hasn’t found the back of the net in his last 19 outings, while Joshua Zirkzee tends to roam all over the pitch rather than acting as a traditional marksman.

Therefore, signing a new centre-forward is an absolute priority for the management heading into the summer, but the identity of the newcomer remains one big mystery at Old Trafford.

In the recent months, United have been constantly linked with Ruben Amorim’s old Sporting CP disciple Viktor Gyokeres (who is also wanted by another European giant), while Victor Osimhen might be the club’s ultimate dream.

Nevertheless, David remains one of the names on the list. Canada’s all-time goalscorer has been one of the most consistent goal threats in Ligue 1 since joining Lille in the summer of 2020. This season, he has already contributed with 20 goals and 11 assists in all competitions.

But sadly for the French club, the 25-year-old has already announced his intention to leave the club at the end of the season, refusing all contract renewal offers. The Brooklyn native will thus see out his deal before signing for a new employer as a free agent next summer.

According to CaughtOffside, this will likely be a Premier League club, as David is keen to play his football in England next season, thus fulfilling a long-time desire.

But while this might be music to the ears of Man Utd, they can still expect to face a challenging battle if they were to concretely pursue the Lille star, as the likes of Chelsea, Newcastle United and Tottenham are all enthralled by the striker’s prowess in front of goal, and some of them would be able to offer him European football next term, unlike the Red Devils whose only route to the continent goes through the Europa League.
