Andre Onana sends message to Man United fans after they destroy him

Man United manager Ruben Amorim and Onana

Andre Onana kept things brief in his latest message following Man United’s draw against Real Sociedad in the Europa League.

Man United were unable to hold onto their lead after Joshua Zirkzee’s opener, with the match ending in a 1-1 draw. The Europa League remains their only realistic shot at silverware this season following their FA Cup exit to Fulham.

Onana delivered a strong performance on the night despite recent criticism of his form. Man United fans have criticised Onana this season after costly errors in the defeat to Fulham, as well as previous mistakes, raising concerns over his ability to bring stability to United’s backline.

However, the goalkeeper remained defiant in the aftermath of the result, sending a message to the supporters as the team looks ahead to their next challenge.

Several teammates, including Matthijs de Ligt and the injured Amad, reacted to the post by liking it, showing their support for the under-fire goalkeeper.

Onana’s performances this season have been a major talking point among United fans, with growing calls for the club to move on from the 28-year-old. Some Man United supporters have even urged the club to re-sign David de Gea, believing Onana has failed to provide the reliability expected when he was brought in as the Spaniard’s replacement in 2023 for £47.2 million.

With a string of unconvincing displays, frustration has been building, and speculation over his future is already mounting despite him only being at Old Trafford for a short period.

Man United staff show concern about Andre Onana

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 26 February that figures within Man United are worried about Onana’s performances this season.

United’s defensive struggles have only compounded the issue, with mistakes across the backline adding pressure on the goalkeeper, as well as his own. He has conceded 51 goals in all competitions, managing just eight clean sheets.

Despite fan criticism, Onana is still expected to keep his place for now, with incoming manager Ruben Amorim likely to back him at least until the end of the season.
