Ogun Governor applauds FG takes over of TASUED

Governor Dapo Abiodun commended the Federal Government for deciding to federalize Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED).

During a Wednesday press briefing in Abeokuta, he expressed his support for this significant development.

Additionally, he underscored the strategic importance of this move, stating that it would equitably distribute federal institutions across Nigeria.

Moreover, he noted that federalization would secure increased funding for academic advancement at the university and throughout the region.

Abiodun explained, “Upon assuming office, I prioritized fairness.

Reviewing federal institutions revealed that Ogun East needed balance; therefore, converting TASUED became imperative to elevate education standards nationally.

This timely conversion aims to fulfill the commitment to improving educational offerings across the region and nation.

Acknowledging the challenges of establishing new institutions due to limited resources, the governor proposed a practical solution.

He explained that his administration plans to take over TASUED, utilizing existing infrastructure to efficiently meet educational demands. Instead of starting a new institution from scratch, they opted to present a prominent institution in Ogun East for federal government adoption.

Moreover, he highlighted this strategic approach to educational development, emphasizing the benefits of leveraging established resources in the area.

Governor Abiodun highlighted the historical and cultural significance of the university’s location, recognizing its essential ties to Nigerian education and politics. He emphasized that Ogun East hosts two revered figures, Dr. Tai Solarin and Chief Obafemi Awolowo, who shaped Nigeria’s educational landscape significantly.

Furthermore, he remarked that it is fitting for this university, named after Dr. Tai Solarin, to gain federal status.

This achievement reflects the enduring legacy of notable educationists who have influenced and transformed the region’s educational journey.

Furthermore, he stressed that the university’s location within the region of Chief Obafemi Awolowo enhances its mission and ongoing legacy. The governor provided insights into the process leading to the Federal Government’s approval for this initiative.

He revealed that his administration formally presented the proposal in July 2024 through the Minister of Education. This minister conducted due diligence before ultimately passing the proposal on to the President for final approval.

“This was not accidental. It was intentional, deliberate, and purposeful.

We made the request, and Mr. President graciously saw merit in it and approved it,” Abiodun stated.

Governor Abiodun assured the Federal Government that TASUED is a first-class institution that has been well-maintained under his administration since 2019.

“I can confidently say that what they have adopted is one of the best universities in this country. We have consistently supported TASUED to ensure it remains a leader among universities,” he said.

Governor Abiodun thanked Ogun State’s residents and traditional leaders, praising the Awujale of Ijebuland’s persistent advocacy for a federal tertiary institution in Ogun East.

He also honored Chief Obafemi Awolowo, recognizing his pioneering efforts to democratize education, and celebrated Dr. Tai Solarin’s relentless nationwide pursuit of quality learning.

“This achievement celebrates Chief Awolowo and Dr. Solarin, who championed accessible education for all,” Governor Abiodun emphasized.

Furthermore, TASUED’s federal transition marks a pivotal milestone, reinforcing the government’s dedication to elevating Nigeria’s educational landscape through strategic investments and inclusive growth.
