Abducted army officer rescued with gunshot wounds in Delta

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 63 Brigade successfully rescued Major M.D. Josiah, a senior officer who was abducted by gunmen in Bomadi, Delta State.
The rescue operation, which took place on Tuesday, followed a coordinated effort involving meticulous planning, intelligence gathering, and collaboration with local community leaders and residents.
Major Josiah had been kidnapped in the wee hours of Monday after attending a wedding in nearby Kpakiama.
Gunmen stormed his lodge in Bomadi town between 2 a.m. and 2:30 a.m., ransacking rooms, seizing phones, and whisking him away in a waiting vehicle.
The troops tracked the abductors to Tuomor Waterside in Bomadi Local Government Area, where the officer was rescued.
Captain Iliyasu Rijau, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, confirmed that the operation was a success, although Major Josiah sustained gunshot wounds during the rescue.
He has been evacuated to a medical facility and is currently receiving treatment.
Brigadier General M.A. Shonibare, Commander of the 63 Brigade/Sector 1, Joint Task Force South-South, Operation DELTA SAFE, praised the troops for their bravery and tactical precision.
He assured residents that the Army remains committed to maintaining peace and security in Delta State and its environs.
He also expressed gratitude to the Bomadi communities for their cooperation, calling their support a testament to the growing trust between the military and civilians in the fight against crime.
