Abure’s LP Faction to Obi: Resign Within 48 Hours or Face Expulsion Over ADC Alliance

The Labour Party has issued a stern ultimatum to its former presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Gregory Obi, demanding that he formally resign from the party within 48 hours, following reports of his involvement with a newly formed political coalition.
In a press release signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Obiora Ifoh, the Labour Party distanced itself from the coalition and declared unequivocally that it has no intention of aligning with what it described as “a congregation of recycled, frustrated and desperate politicians.”
“The so-called coalition is nothing but a power-grabbing syndicate,” the statement reads. “Nigerians must be warned—those mouthing ‘A New Nigeria is Possible’ cannot actualize it when the same old guards, who wrecked the nation, are now masquerading as redeemers.”
According to the party, the coalition is a ruse, engineered by political opportunists desperate to relaunch themselves into power by capitalizing on public discontent. The party accused Mr. Obi of holding “dual political citizenship,” alleging that while he still parades as a Labour Party figure by day, he secretly woos members to join the coalition by night.
“We are aware of several nocturnal meetings between Peter Obi and some of our members. Some have resisted defecting, and we commend their loyalty,” Ifoh revealed.
The Labour Party said it would no longer tolerate political ambivalence from any member, stressing that “people with dual agenda and deceptive personas” will not be accommodated in its fold. Any member participating in the coalition has been given 48 hours to tender their resignation or face party disciplinary measures.
Reaffirming its commitment to youth-driven transformation, the party emphasized that true national rebirth cannot emerge from platforms dominated by “gerontocrats who have repeatedly failed the country.”
“Nearly 70% of Nigerians are youths. The dream of a New Nigeria is theirs. That dream is incompatible with the political DNA of this coalition,” the statement emphasized.
The party reaffirmed its position as the sole credible platform for a national renaissance, vowing to protect its structure and ideology ahead of the next general elections.
“The Labour Party remains the true custodian of the New Nigeria vision. We urge all loyal members to stay steadfast and focused on the journey ahead.
