ADC Delta shifts ward coalition inauguration, cites delays in list submissions DDM News

(DDM) – The Delta State Chapter of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, has shifted the inauguration of its ward coalition committees to a new date following internal delays.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the exercise, initially scheduled for mid-September, was postponed after several ward blocs across the state failed to submit their coalition lists on time.

In a statement signed by the State Secretary, Yebu Napoleon, and endorsed by the State Chairman, Engr. Austine Okolie, the party confirmed that the inauguration would now hold on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.

According to the statement, the inauguration ceremonies will take place simultaneously at designated local government headquarters across Delta State to ensure inclusivity and uniformity.

The party leadership admitted that logistical hitches and administrative lapses contributed to the delay but reassured members that the postponement was necessary to uphold transparency and fairness.

The ADC leadership also expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to coalition partners, urging them to take the extension as an opportunity to put finishing touches to their lists and prepare adequately.

DDM learned that the coalition committees represent a strategic platform for grassroots mobilisation and internal party coordination as the ADC intensifies preparations for upcoming political contests in Delta State.

Political observers note that the ADC has been working to strengthen its structures across wards and local governments in order to compete more effectively against dominant parties like the PDP and APC.

Party insiders disclosed that the committees, once inaugurated, will play a vital role in harmonising interests at the ward level, reconciling aggrieved blocs, and ensuring a unified political direction.

Some coalition leaders, particularly from riverine areas, reportedly faced difficulties finalising lists due to communication bottlenecks and transportation challenges, which delayed submission to the state secretariat.

Engr. Okolie, in his endorsement of the postponement, emphasised that due process could not be compromised for speed, reiterating the ADC’s commitment to internal democracy and accountability.

Grassroots members, however, told DDM that they welcomed the shift, noting that it would give their wards more time to resolve pending disagreements over representation.

The ADC, established nationally as a third-force alternative to the dominant two-party structure, has been attempting to carve out stronger political relevance in Delta State through coalition building and inclusive politics.

Analysts say the party’s ability to mobilise effectively at the ward level will determine its chances of making electoral inroads in 2027 and beyond.

The new date of September 23 is now seen as a critical test of the party’s readiness and organisational strength ahead of larger state and national political battles.

For now, all eyes remain on the ADC’s local leadership to deliver a smooth and widely accepted inauguration across Delta’s 25 local government areas.
