ADC Refutes Datti’s Criticism, Calls on Him to Join Opposition Coalition

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed remarks by Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, the 2023 Labour Party vice-presidential candidate, labeling his criticism of the opposition coalition as “personal opinions” that do not reflect the party’s stance.

In a statement signed by Jackie Wayas, Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, the party emphasized its commitment to uniting opposition forces ahead of the 2027 elections. Wayas reaffirmed that the coalition, which includes notable figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Nasir el-Rufai, David Mark, Rauf Aregbesola, Rotimi Amaechi, and Peter Obi, emerged from broad consultations aimed at advancing national interests.

Wayas urged Senator Baba-Ahmed—whom she described as “a respected voice” dedicated to integrity and justice—to join the coalition in pursuing a shared vision for a better Nigeria.

“Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed’s assertions are personal opinions and do not reflect the position of the ADC or its coalition partners,” the statement read.

Highlighting the coalition’s continuity, the statement quoted Peter Obi, who publicly endorsed ADC as the platform for the 2027 elections, calling on all members to unite in delivering capable, compassionate leadership for Nigerians.
