ADC Urges Tinubu to Declare State of Emergency in Katsina, Zamfara Amid Mass Killings

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has demanded that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu immediately declare a State of Emergency in Katsina and Zamfara States following a brutal wave of attacks that have claimed over 140 lives in just two months.

ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi described the August incident in Malumfashi, Katsina—where 30 worshippers were gunned down in a mosque and 20 villagers were burned alive in their homes—as proof of a collapsing national security system. He said the tragedy is part of a broader surge of terror that has wreaked devastation across both states.

Condemning the president’s international engagements amid unfolding tragedy, ADC criticized Tinubu’s absence, stating:

“Diplomacy abroad is meaningless if safety and security at home cannot be guaranteed.”

The party also condemned a recent political gathering by PDP governors in Zamfara, calling it insensitive and insensitive in light of the violence and mourning taking place.

In addition to the emergency call, the ADC urged a complete overhaul of Nigeria’s security architecture. The party argued the recent advice by the Chief of Defence Staff for citizens to learn self-defence should serve as a warning that the current system is failing.
