Amorim not entirely pleased with Man United display in 4-0 demolition of Everton

Despite the large result, Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim still saw some flaws in his team’s display against Everton.

After settling for a 1-1 draw in Ipswich last weekend, the Portuguese tactician earned his maiden Premier League victory in front of his home supporters at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils showed little mercy to the Toffees, as Marcus Rasford and Joshua Zirkzee each bagged a brace to complete a 4-0 demolition.

And yet, the 39-year-old wasn’t completely happy with the performance, describing it as a rollercoaster.

“The result was good but we were pragmatic. It was not pretty. We did our job, which is to win,” noted the former Sporting CP coach in his post-match interview with Sky Sports.

“You can feel that we have a long way to go. You can feel that in the first few minutes, where we were OK, but then Everton controlled the game. Then we got the goals at the right moment and that changed the game.

“You can’t just focus on the result, you have to focus on the way the result appeared. Like before the game, we have so much to do, but it is better to work with victories. Let’s focus on the performance more than the result.

“You can feel it during the game. It isn’t a line of top performances, it is a rollercoaster of performances. We have some moments when we are good but then we have moments when we have to suffer. We did it again like in the Europa League. We need time to train and improve. It is better to work with victories.”

Nevertheless, Amorim was pleased with Zirkzee’s outing, as the under-fire striker managed to end his goal drought which dates back to his club debut in August.

“Scoring goals means everything for the player. He did a great job. It is good for his confidence. We had an idea, but it was not because I selected him that I had an epiphany.

“We needed fresh legs. The players are helping a lot, congratulations to them.”

Rashford now has three goals in two Premier League outings since Amorim’s arrival, but the Portuguese tactician insists the English striker has great room for improvement.

“A new coach is always like that [re-energising the squad], but there is so much to improve. He can do so much better. We all have to improve. But it was a great job from the players.”
