Anambra 2025 Guber: Rotary Club, Ohanaeze Calls For Peaceful Conduct

As part of activities to commemorate the 2025 International Day of Peace/Peaceful Anambra Governorship Election, Rotary International District 9142 Awka branch and Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide have stressed the need for a peaceful November 8, 2025 gubernatorial election in Anambra State.

They stated this at a peace awareness walk, organized by Anambra Peace and Mediation Working Committee in partnership with Institute for Peace, Security and Development Studies, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka,

The peace day, celebrated annually on September. 21 is aimed at reducing violence and strengthening the ideals of peace around the world.

Anambra State Cordinator, Rotary Action Group for Peace ( RATGP) Fr. Chidi Obiudu, while speaking on this year’s theme: “Act Now For A Peaceful World”,
called on residents to conduct themselves peacefully during the voting process.

Fr. Obiudu appeal to them to also sustained the already existing peace with one another, shun social vices that might make the state ungovernable after the election.

“We want to use this day to call on residents, especially the youth who have taken up arms against one other in the state over the election to stop it in the interest of development.

“We staged this peaceful walk to sensitized Anambra people not take the forthcoming election as do or die affairs.

“We are intensifying the peace campaign across the 179 communities that constitute the State. Anambra must have a peaceful election. The Rotary International continue to advocate until the positive peace is achieved.

“This is a very important day to us as Rotarians because one of the major issues we are advocating for is for us to have peace globally and that is one of the seven focus areas of Rotary.

“In everything we do in Rotary, we are trying to give people hope so that they can be at peace with themselves and everyone in the world. We believe that with hope, peace will prevailed.

Obiudu who is also the immediate past assistant governor of Rotary District 9142, Anambra, advised the electorate irrespective of political affiliations to embrace peace and avoid anything evil that will bring bad name to the state especially at this election period and not to take laws into their hands.

Also speaking, Rtn Pharm Michael Bishop, President, Rotary Club of Awka metropolis, said that the briefing was aimed at creating awareness on the need to promote peace in Anambra, South East, Nigeria and the World at large.

On his part, the former National Vice President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene, also urged Nigerians to make themselves advocates of peace, as it would benefit the country in numerous ways.

Ogene appealed to political parties and their candidates in the November 8 election to center their campaigns on issues that would enhanced peace, unity and development of the State.
