Anambra Assembly Passes Bill Prohibiting Discrimination Against Persons Living With HIV, AIDS

A bill for a law to prohibit all forms of discrimination against persons living with HIV and those affected by AIDS has been passed by Anambra State House of Assembly.
The bill, which scaled through third reading on Thursday at plenary, was passed after undergoing thorough legislative scrutiny, aims to ensure access to support, care, and protection for these individuals.
The sponsor of the bill and Member representing Ogbaru One Constituency Hon. Noble Igwe, explained that the law was borne out of the need to eliminate stigma and promote inclusive healthcare practices across the state.
Anambra Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze who presided plenary, commended Hon. Igwe for sponsoring the bill.
Rt. Hon. Udeze described the passage of the bill as a landmark development that will benefit ndi Anambra and announced that the law will officially come into effect on the 3rd of July, 2025.
