Anambra Assembly Urges Soludo to Revoke Dormant Memoranda Of Understanding

Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a resolution calling on Governor Chukwuma Soludo, to direct the Acting Managing Director of Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency (ANSIPPA) to revoke non-active Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) from the last two administrations.

Angel Network News (ANN) reports that
the motion was moved at plenary by the Minority Leader and member representing Nnewi South two Constituency, Hon. Johnbosco Akaegbobi.

In his submission, Akaegbobi expressed concern over numerous inactive MoUs that have failed to deliver the anticipated economic benefits to the state.

According to Akaegbobi, while Anambra State Investment Promotion & Protection Agency Law, enacted in 2014, mandates ANSIPPA to protect, promote, monitor, coordinate, and assist current and potential investors, many of the agreements signed in previous administrations have remained dormant, tying up critical resources that could otherwise be redirected to projects better aligned with the current administration’s priorities.

“Mindful that, despite the Agency’s achievement, there are numerous Memorandum of Understanding and various agreements signed during the last two Administration that have remained inactive without yielding the anticipated economic benefits.

“Some of such MoU’s includes but not limited to; J.C Michael Nigeria Limited (Market Sector), Joseph Agro Industries Limited (Agricultural Sector)

“Those dormant agreements and Memorandum of Understanding tie up potential opportunities and resources that could otherwise be redirected towards more viable projects aligned with the present day development priorities of Mr. Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s Administration”. Akaegbobi said.

Speaking in favor of the motion, the Majority Leader, Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme, Hon. Obi Nweke (Anambra East), Hon. Anayo Okpalaeke (Aguata one), Hon. Emma Nwafor (Orumba South), and Hon. Nonso Atuchukwu (Nnewi South one)
emphasized that revoking these dormant agreements would free up resources, allowing the state to focus on more impactful investments that align with Governor Soludo’s developmental agenda.

The Speaker Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze who presided the sitting, commended the Minority Leader for sponsoring the motion.
