Anambra: ASUBEB Trains Mathematics and Science Teachers, Urges Participants to Implement the New Curriculum

The need to strengthen the quality of basic education in Anambra State and enhance the learning outcomes for learners has prompted the training of Science and Mathematics teachers in Anambra State.
The training programme tagged: “Strengthening Mathematics and Science Education (SMASE), held at Central School, Awka was organised by the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, Abuja, in collaboration with the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, Awka.
The 5-day intensive training for Mathematics and Science teachers across the three Senatorial Zones of the state commenced with a refresher course on 25th and 26th July and continued with teacher-focused sessions from 29th July to 2nd August, 2025 is aimed at empowering teachers with modern pedagogical skills to boost literacy and numeracy levels among pupils.
According to the Executive Chairman of ASUBEB, Awka, Dr. Vera Nkiru Nwadinobi, the training is aimed at empowering the teachers with modern pedagogical skills to boost literacy and numeracy among pupils.
Dr. Vera Nwadinobi extolled the relentless commitment of the State Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, for providing free and inclusive education from nursery to senior secondary level in Anambra State which she described as a critical step towards bridging learning inequality.
While urging the participants to embrace and implement the new curriculum modules introduced during the training, Dr. Nwadinobi stressed the importance of using Mother Tongue in teaching the pupils at the basic education level to inspire and shape the minds of our young learners.
“Foundational learning is the bedrock upon which all academic success is built. This training is designed to help you become better teachers, and I encourage you to cascade the knowledge down to your colleagues at the Local Government Education Authority levels,” she stressed.
Continuing, Dr. Nwadinobi revealed that the Governor is set to build public schools in communities that do not have public schools as part of the efforts to ensure that no child is left behind in the pursuit of quality education.
