Anambra Corps Member Empowers Youths With Digital Skill

A corps member serving in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State,
Mr. Moses Yakubu has successfully launched a community-focused digital skills bootcamp aimed at empowering local youths with practical, 21st-century technological competencies.

Angel Network News (ANN) reports that
Yakubu while speaking at the official commissioning of the ‘Digital City Bootcamp Project’ which took place at the Ekwusigo LGA headquarters in Ozoubulu,
said he was inspired by the need to address the digital divide and lack of opportunities in the community.

Yakubu, a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Community Development Service (CDS) group, with registration number (AN/24B/2807), who is currently in his mandatory one-year national service in the area, credited the initiative to the encouragement he received from his Local Government Inspector, Mr. Kenneth Ani, who urged corps members to use their service year to make a meaningful impact in their host communities.

Despite initial challenges, including limited resources and low turnout at the start, Yakubu said the support from local leaders, including the Ekwusigo Local Government Chairman, played a crucial role in bringing the project to fruition.

“This is more than just a bootcamp. It’s about creating a legacy of learning, innovation, and empowerment that will outlive my service year.” Yakubu stated.

The Chairman of Ekwusigo Local Government, Hon. Chimezie Obi, who delivered the keynote address at the event, lauded Mr. Yakubu for his foresight and commitment to youth development.

The Meyor described the bootcamp as “a highly impactful project” that goes beyond theoretical teaching and instead imparts creativity and practical skills to students. He urged participants to make the most of the opportunity, prioritizing learning and productively utilizing their free time.

Obi also emphasized the importance of hard work and excellence, encouraging the youths to strive for greatness and avoid social vices such as “Yahoo-Yahoo” and other forms of cybercrime.

“Let this bootcamp be a turning point in your lives. Use this knowledge to create, to innovate, and to build a better future not only for yourselves but for your community.” the local government boss
said.

Representing the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Pauline Ojisua, the Local Government Inspector for Ekwusigo LGA expressed gratitude for the successful launch of the project. He thanked God for His role in the project’s success and commended the efforts of both the corps member and the local government leadership.

He urged the students to take full advantage of the opportunity, noting that Mr. Yakubu’s initiative serves as a model of what can be achieved through creativity, resourcefulness, and determination and also encouraged other corps members to follow suit, challenging them to think beyond the ordinary and use their service year to leave a lasting impact on society.

ANN gathered that the ‘Digital City Bootcamp Project’ is expected to provide ongoing training in digital literacy, coding, graphic design, and other relevant tech skills to students and young people in the community. Plans are already underway to expand the program and incorporate more participants in subsequent batches.

The occasion attracted dignitaries, NYSC officials, students, and members of the community, who witness and celebrate the launch of the innovative project that promises to reshape the educational and economic trajectory of the youths in the area.
