Andre Onana could stay at Man Utd, as Amorim described as ‘big fan’

In a shocking twist, Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim is reportedly a keen admirer of his current Number One, Andre Onana.
The 29-year-old goalkeeper joined the club in the summer of 2023 on a deal worth £47.5 million. He arrived as a replacement for United legend David De Gea, as Erik ten Hag was determined to reunite with his old Ajax pupil.
Nevertheless, the Cameroonian has been labelled as one of the worst shot-stoppers in the club’s history after developing a knack for committing costly blunders since his arrival.
But despite his errors, Onana has somehow managed to keep his place between the sticks, even following the sacking of his ally, Ten Hag, in October, as Amorim has also identified him as his ultimate first-choice goalkeeper, while only sporadically deploying Altay Bayindir.
Onana remains Man United’s Undisputed Number One

The Portuguese dropped Onana following his howlers in the first leg against Lyon, opting to start Bayindir against Newcastle, but the latter didn’t truly cover himself in glory, so the Cameroon international swiftly regained his spot after what has been described as a much-needed rest.
In recent months, sources have been tipping Man Utd to sign a new goalkeeper in the summer and try to offload Onana.
However, UtdDistrict insists that Amorim is a ‘big fan’ of Onana despite his struggles this season.
Ruben Amorim ‘likes’ Andre Onana
The custodian has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, but based on this newly emerging report, the United manager might be happy to keep him at Carrington.
At this stage, Onana’s future remains anyone’s guess, and it could largely depend on the outcome of MUFC’s Europa League campaign, as qualifying for the Champions League can unlock extra resources to spend on the market, potentially allowing INEOS to lure a top-notch goalkeeper.
The Red Devils have been linked with several profiles, including Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen, Burnley’s James Trafford and Milan’s Mike Maignan.
