APC chieftain tells Fubara: sack Ibas’s appointees, seek Tinubu’s protection DDM News

(DDM) – A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has urged Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara to sack all appointees installed by the Sole Administrator during his six-month suspension.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that Governor Fubara returned to the Rivers State Government House on Friday, a day after Sole Administrator Ibok-Ette Ibas vacated the seat of power.

Fubara had been suspended by President Bola Tinubu in a controversial move that sparked nationwide condemnation.

The emergency rule lasted six months despite widespread criticism, with Tinubu later lifting the order to pave the way for reconciliation.

During the period, Ibas made several appointments which, according to Eze, should not be recognized by the returning governor.

Eze, a former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP), insisted Fubara must assert his authority.

He warned the governor not to allow “anybody to impose commissioners or aides” on his administration, stressing that political interference would undermine stability.

Eze noted that even former Governor Nyesom Wike had pledged not to interfere in such matters.

He further advised that for peace to reign, all lawmakers who resigned or worked with Fubara before the crisis must be reabsorbed into the State Assembly.

The APC chieftain also called on President Tinubu to reassure Fubara of protection against any impeachment plot by the House of Assembly.

He said the governor must not be subjected to further embarrassment through “funny moves” by legislators determined to undermine him.

Eze warned that if the president failed to provide such assurance, Fubara should invoke his full executive powers to defend his mandate.

Analysts say Eze’s remarks highlight the lingering tensions in Rivers politics despite the official lifting of emergency rule.

The state has been deeply divided since the rift between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, now FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, spiraled into open confrontation.

Observers believe that Fubara’s next steps, including whether he accepts or rejects Ibas’s appointees, will determine the trajectory of peace in Rivers.
