APC Will Take Over Abia in 2027 – Deputy Speaker

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has vowed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will take control of Abia State in the 2027 general elections.

Kalu made this bold declaration on Sunday at the Abia Hotels in Umuahia, where he addressed a large crowd of APC supporters and party stakeholders.

He stated that it was time for Abia to align with the ruling party at the federal level to enjoy the full benefits of national development.

“We are going to take over Abia in 2027. We want to work with President Tinubu to move our state forward,” Kalu said.

The Deputy Speaker also revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to establishing a seaport in the South East to boost trade and economic growth.

According to him, the president understands that the South East is predominantly made up of traders and is determined to bring commerce closer to the region.

Kalu explained that the gathering was not about financial rewards but about “the love we have for our President” and the growing momentum for the 2027 elections.

He insisted that the crowd that attended the event was not rented but “organic,” showing the genuine support of the people.

The lawmaker criticized the Abia State Government under Governor Alex Otti, claiming that despite the huge monthly federal allocations, development in the state does not match the funds received.

“You cannot be getting ₦38 to ₦40 billion every month and still perform like former governors who received ₦4 or ₦5 billion,” he stated.

Kalu credited President Tinubu for releasing more funds to states since removing fuel subsidy, calling the president the “real miracle worker.”

He said the president’s fiscal reforms have allowed states to undertake more visible projects.

Despite his criticisms, Kalu said he bears no personal grudge against Otti but has a duty as an opposition leader in Abia to speak for the people.

He emphasized that the APC would win Abia through popular votes, not federal might.

“We won’t take over by force. The people who need more progress will vote for APC,” he added.

The Deputy Speaker also urged residents to register for their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) before the continuous voter registration closes.

He encouraged students to enroll in the federal government’s Students’ Loan Scheme and advised traders and artisans to join cooperative societies to benefit from the Renewed Hope Cooperative Partners initiative.

Kalu reaffirmed his loyalty to President Tinubu and called on the South East to continue supporting the administration.

The event, which almost turned into a political rally, was attended by top APC leaders, including former Speaker Stanley Ohajuruka, Chief Sam Onuigbo, and Chief Charles Ogbonnaya, among others.
