Arsenal and Villa hold ‘exploratory talks’ over Utd-linked Cunha

Manchester United are not the only club to have acted on their interest in Matheus Cunha.

While the Red Devils are said to be leading the race for the Wolverhampton Wanderers talisman, anything can happen until his £62.5 million release clause has officially been triggered by an interested side.

It’s no surprise Cunha, 25, has become such a sought-after talent. His efforts this season have set him aside as one of the Premier League’s standout performers after notching 14 goals and four assists in 28 appearances.

He has been influential in helping Wolves retain their top-flight status for another year following a torrid start to the term. Now that his job is done, a transfer is anticipated as soon as the window opens – despite the 13-capped Brazil international penning a four-year contract extension back in February.

Presumably, Cunha only did so to have the release clause inserted into his terms, which will allow for a relatively straightforward sale as soon as it’s activated. That way, Wolves can also reinvest the hefty fee on his replacement/s throughout the summer.

Amid reports of United opening talks with the forward, Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol revealed they’re not the only English outfit to be considering a move.

“Four Premier League clubs, as well as Manchester United, want to sign Matheus Cunha this summer,” he claimed on X/Twitter. “Arsenal and Aston Villa are among the clubs who have held exploratory talks about signing him this year. Saudi Pro League clubs are now willing to trigger his £64m release clause. Cunha sees United as one of the biggest clubs in the world and their current league position would not put him off a potential move to Old Trafford.

“One source says the player ‘loves United’.”
