ASATU Orders Conduct Of Election Within 30 Days In Anambra Community

The Youth Wing of the Anambra State Association of Town Unions, (ASATU), has directed the Caretaker President General of Abba Town Union, ATU, Mr. Alexander Ekwuagana, to organize an election for the youth wing of the town within one month, and to give the body a date for the exercise.
In a letter dated 8th August, 2025 and addressed to Mr. Ekwuagana, the youth body noted that the election is expected to be conducted not more than 30 days of receipt of the letter,
“failure of which the conduct of the election will be taken over by the Ministry of Youth Development”.
The letter signed by the President General of ASATU Youth Wing, Comrade Ken Okoli, was copied to the Member representing Njikoka Two Constituency at the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Jude Akpua, Mayor Njikoka LGA, Hon. Chinedu Ononiba, Traditional Ruler of Abba, Youth Leader of Abba and Community Role Model from Abba.
It noted that the need to have elected executives for Abba Town Union Youth Wing is in line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s standard on community governance, and based on the ASATU Youth Bye-Law which stipulates that every youth leader of a town must be elected, and not appointed; as approved by the Ministry of Youth Development, Awka, to ensure compliance from every town union.
“I write to convey to you the need to organize an election for the youth wing of your town within 1 month. Please take note that the election is expected to be conducted not more than 30 days of receipt of this letter, failure of which the conduct of the election will be taken over by the Ministry of Youth Development”, the letter partly reads.
Sources told Angel Network News (ANN) that Abba has never had an elected youth leader, and the current youth leader, Engr. Chris Obikee, was appointed around 2016.
