Bameyi Fires Nigeria’s U-20 Eagles Into Knockout Stage With Goal vs Argentina

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles advanced to the knockout rounds of the U-20 World Cup after a 1-0 win over Argentina, courtesy of a decisive strike from forward Bameyi in their final group match.

The goal came in the second half and sealed top spot in Group F, putting Nigeria through while sending Argentina home. Coach Aliyu Zubairu praised Bameyi’s composure, saying the young striker “took his chance and did not look back.”

The victory gives the Flying Eagles confidence ahead of their round of 16 clash. Nigeria is now one of the eight teams left vying for the title after navigating a tough group that included Colombia and Saudi Arabia.

Nigeria’s defence held firm under pressure, repelling Argentina’s late attacks, and the midfield anchored possession for much of the second half. The win marks Nigeria’s best start in a U-20 World Cup in recent years.
