Manchester United return to Europa League action this Thursday when they host Rangers for an 8pm kick-off.
The Reds enter the clash on the back of a woeful 3-1 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League, which marked their 10th loss of the campaign and left them 13th-placed in the table.
After such a torrid display, fans would usually expect changes across the board to send a message to Sunday’s underperformers. However, with Ruben Amorim’s newly implemented system proving so difficult to adapt to, he’ll struggle to drop certain figures who’ve featured most weeks since he arrived.
He is, however, said to be considering one substantial change between the sticks. Andre Onana’s costly blunder gifted Brighton their third goal at Old Trafford when he attempted to claim a low cross – but palmed the pall in the path of the pouncing Georginio Rutter, who swiftly converted the unmissable chance.
Onana in line to be dropped after Brighton debacle
FourFourTwo now claims Amorim could restore Altay Bayindir to the starting XI in place of the struggling Onana in two days’ time.
Bayindir has played in only two matches under Amorim: a 4-3 Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur and a 1-1 draw with Arsenal, the latter of which saw him reap the plaudits after saving a penalty in regular time and in the shootout, aiding United’s progression to the fourth round.
Heading into the January window, all signs pointed towards the Turkish international leaving due to his lack of game time since joining United, but his scintillating showing at the Emirates – coupled with Onana’s lengthy mistakes catalogue – has seemingly granted him enough credit in the bank to begin rivalling his counterpart for a starting spot.
