Boris Johnson hails US, Ukraine historic mineral deal, says it’s time to force Putin to negotiate
Former British Prime Minister, Mr. Boris Johnson, has hailed the historic minerals deal between and United States and Ukraine.
In a post on his official Facebook page, while commending the deal which was reached on Wednesday, Boris Johnson however, noted that the only man that is still frustrating the peace terms is President Vladimir Putin.
According to Johnson, Putin continue to reject Trump’s peace plan and go ahead to murder innocent Ukrainians.
He maintained that it is time to force the Russian strong man to the table.
Boris Johnson said: “Congratulations to the US and Ukraine on a historic minerals deal – committing the US to a “free, sovereign and secure Ukraine.””
“There is only one man still blocking peace on those terms, and that is the invader Vladimir Putin. He continues to reject Trump’s peace plan. He continues to murder innocent Ukrainians. It is time now to force him to the table.
“Senator Lindsey Graham’s bill for secondary sanctions now has an amazing 73 signatures. But where is Europe? Where is Britain? Why is HM Treasury still dragging its feet?”
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s deputy prime minister, according UK Independent, revealed key details of the ‘historic’ minerals deal which was reached on Wednesday, following months of sometimes fraught negotiations.
Yulia Svyrydenko, who signed the agreement alongside US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in Washington, said the agreement would have knock-on effects for Ukraine.
Through the deal, the countries will create a joint fund to invest in Ukraine’s reconstruction, with a draft saying Washington would get preferential access to new Ukrainian resource deals.
“It is important that the agreement will become a signal to other global players that it is reliable to cooperate with Ukraine in the long term – for decades,” Ms Svyrydenko said.
The deal comes as overnight attacks killed several people. Russian drone strikes on the Black Sea port city of Odesa in the early hours of Thursday killing two and injuring 15, emergency services said. Russia also reported that Ukrainian strikes in the Russian-controlled part of Kherson killed seven.
Earlier, Ukraine’s top military commander Oleksandr Syrskyi has said Russian forces have significantly increased the intensity of fighting in eastern Ukraine as Vladimir Putin is publicly talking about wanting a ceasefire.
